Tears For Fears: "Shout" (1985)
"Shout" is a song by the British band Tears for Fears.
Written by Roland Orzabal and Ian Stanley and sung by Orzabal (with Curt Smith duetting on the chorus), it was the band's eighth single release (the second taken from their second LP Songs from the Big Chair) and sixth UK Top 40 hit, peaking at #4 in January 1985. In the USA, it reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on 3 August 1985 and remained there for three weeks. "Shout" would become one of the most successful pop songs of 1985, eventually reaching the Top Ten in 25 countries.
- Lyrics:
Shout
Chorus
Shout
Shout
Let it aloud
These are the things I can do without
Come on
I’m talking to you
Come on
(repeat)
In violent times
You shouldn’t have to sell your soul
In black and white
They really really ought to know
Those one track minds
That took you for a working boy
Kiss them goodbye
You shouldn’t have to jump for joy
You shouldn’t have to jump for joy
Chorus
They gave you life
And in return you gave them hell
As cold as ice
I hope we live to tell the tale
I hope we live to tell the tale
Chorus(x2)
And when you’ve taken down your guard
If I could change your mind
I’d really love to break your heart
I’d really love to break your heart
Chorus
