Brick & Lace: "Love Is Wicked" (2007)




Brick and Lace are a Jamaican R&B reggae fusion musical duo consisting of sisters Nyanda and Nailah Thorbourne. Originally Brick & Lace consisted of three sisters Nyanda,Nailah, and Tasha Thorbourne. Tasha left the group, but she continues to work behind the scenes and co-write songs for her sisters.

"Love Is Wicked" is the debut album by Brick & Lace. It had an initial release date of August 21, 2007, then it got moved to December 4, 2007 but has now been pushed back further to 2008. It was eventually released in the UK and France. The album was released also in other countries (such as Belgium) in September 2007. It has since then leaked onto the internet on various blog sites. Love Is Wicked is a mix of R&B and pop music with hip hop and reggae-dancehall elements.

Benassi Bros feat Sandy: "Illusion" (2004)




Benassi Bros. is an Italian dance group. The members of the group, Benny Benassi and Alle Benassi, started DJing in the late '80s in their hometown, before moving to Larry Pignagnoli's Off Limits production studio in the mid-'90s, creating music for various acts, including Whigfield, J.K. and Ally & Jo. Despite the name "Benassi Bros.", Benny Benassi and Alle Benassi are actually cousins.

Zucchero Fornaciari: "Baila Morena / Baila (Sexy Thing)" 2001




"Baila morena" is a song recorded in 2001 by the Italian singer Zucchero. The song was released as a single twice : first in 2001 (under the title "Baila (Sexy Thing)"), reaching #1 in Italy, but achieving a moderate success in the other countries, then in 2006 as a duet with the band Maná, as the soundtrack of the film Les Bronzés 3 : Amis pour la vie (English : French Fried Vacation 3 - Friends Forever), becoming this time a huge hit in France and Belgium.

On February 2, 2006, the single entered the French Singles Chart at #64, then jumped straight to #1, which is the third biggest jump to number-one in this country. After four weeks at #1, the singles dropped almost every week on the chart, totaling ten weeks in the top ten, 17 in the top 50 and 28 in the top 100. It was the 9th best-selling of the year and was certified Gold by the SNEP.

In 2007, the song was covered by Patrick Fiori and Hélène Ségara and included in a medley available on Les Enfoirés' album La Caravane des Enfoirés.

The Doors: "Touch Me" (1968)




"Touch Me" is a song by The Doors from their album The Soft Parade. Written by Robby Krieger, its riff was influenced by The Four Seasons' "C'mon Marianne." It is notable for its extensive usage of brass and string instruments (including a powerful solo by featured saxophonist Curtis Amy) to accent Jim Morrison's vocals. It was one of the most popular singles by The Doors.

It was released as a single in December 1968. The song reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 in the Cashbox Top 100 in early 1969 (the band's third American number-one single). The single also did well elsewhere, peaking at #1 in the RPM Canadian Singles Chart and at #10 in the Kent Music Report in Australia. However, despite the band's commercial success the previous year, "Touch Me" did not chart in the UK Singles Chart.

According to Bruce Botnick's liner notes the song was initially referred to by its various working titles; "I'm Gonna Love You," from a line in the chorus, or "Hit Me," a reference to blackjack playing. The opening line was originally "C'mon, hit me, I'm not afraid," the line thus reflecting the first person vantage point of a blackjack player. Morrison reportedly changed the lyric out of concern that rowdy crowds at their live shows would mistakenly believe that "hit me" was a challenge to physically assault him.

One of the group's most famous television appearances is their performance of "Touch Me" on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour along with the single's B-side, "Wild Child." The taping date was December 6, 1968 with air date of December 15th. During the performance, Jim Morrison missed his cue for the lines "C'mon, c'mon" and Robby Krieger could be seen with a black eye. Krieger stated in several interviews given after Morrison's death that Morrison had given him the black eye during a confrontation, inadvertently referencing the song's original title. The group is backed by the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, plus Curtis Amy duplicating the saxophone solo he also performed on the studio version.

Lara Fabian: "Je Suis Malade" (1995)




Lara Fabian made that great cover of the famous hit created by the french singer Serge Lama, released 1973. The song have gained big succes thanks to Dalida version in 1977.

James Blunt: "No Bravery" (2006)




"No Bravery" is a pop rock song written by British singer James Blunt and Sacha Skarbek for Blunt's debut album Back to Bedlam. The song was produced by Tom Rothrock and Jimmy Hogarth and received a positive reception from music critics. It was released as the fifth single in April 2006, exclusively in France. The track peaked at #15 there. In the United States, "No Bravery" received heavy airplay but was not released as a single.

The single was released on one physical format, including the album version of the track backed with an exclusive live version recorded at the BBC Sessions in Ireland.

"No Bravery" featured a music video that was directed by Paul Heyes and was filmed on February 11, 2006 in The Far East. In the video, Blunt is featured walking through a war zone, reflecting on his army days and remembering events that made him into the man he is today. The video also shows the death of a British soldier and the heartache of his family.

Redgum: "I Was Only Nineteen" (1983)




"Only Nineteen", "I Was Only Nineteen" or "A Walk in the Light Green" is the most widely recognised song by Australian folk group Redgum. The song was released in March 1983 as a single, which hit number one on the Kent Music Report Singles Chart for two weeks. It was also recorded for Redgum's live album Caught in the Act (Epic Records) released in June, which stayed in the top forty of the Kent Music Report Albums Chart for four months. Royalties for the song go to the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia. It is in the Australasian Performing Right Association's Top 30 Australian Songs of all time.

The song is a first-person account of a typical Australian infantry regular soldier's experience in the Vietnam War, from training in Australia to first hand exposure to military operations and combat, and ultimately his return home disillusioned, psychologically scarred and possibly suffering from the effects of the chemical defoliant Agent Orange. (In actuality, conscripts or 'Nashos' were not sent to Vietnam unless they were aged at least twenty.)

Redgum's lead vocalist-guitarist, John Schumann, wrote the song based on experiences he heard from veterans — particularly Mick Storen (his brother in-law) and Frankie Hunt: "The power derives from the detail, provided by my mate and brother-in-law, Mick Storen, who was brave and trusting enough to share his story with me." — John Schumann

For the live version, Schumann explained the title, "A Walk in the Light Green", as referring to operational patrols in areas marked light green on topographical maps, where dark green indicated thick jungle, plenty of cover and few land mines and light green indicated thinly wooded areas, little cover and a high likelihood of land mines.

Men At Work: "Overkill" (1983)




"Overkill" is a song by Australian band Men at Work and featured on their 1983 album Cargo. It was written by lead singer Colin Hay. The song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at #28 in April 1983 and peaked at #3 in early June.

A solo acoustic version by Hay featured in the Scrubs episode "My Overkill", along with a cameo of him singing it. When it was first released, it was a departure from the typical Men at Work's style of reggae pop. "Overkill" instead had hard-hitting lyrics and blues and roots feel.

Kiss: "I was made for loving you" (1979)




"I Was Made for Lovin' You" is a song by American hard rock band Kiss, originally released on their 1979 album Dynasty. It was released as the A-side of their first single from the album. It was the band's second Platinum single, selling over 1 million copies. The single was certified Platinum in the US on August 16, 1979, and in Canada on August 1, 1979. The B-side of the single is the album track "Hard Times", which was written by Ace Frehley. The single reached #11 on the US Billboard singles chart. The song also became a massive hit in Australia reaching #1 on the ARIA charts in 1979. The song also charted in Western Europe, it became a top 20 hit in Sweden, a top 10 hit in Norway, made it to the number 2 position in France, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. In the Netherlands it was a #1.

The song was one of the band's few singles to chart in the UK in the 1970s, though only peaking at No. 51, where a 7 min 54 sec version was released on 12" single in addition to the shorter 7" version.

Throughout the years since its release, the song has become a permanent staple in Kiss's live performances, despite sounding different from the studio version. When Eric Carr joined the band in 1980, the song was played in a significantly faster tempo, attributed by Carr's rapid drumming skills. Toward Carr's final years of his life up to the current lineup, the song was played in the same tempo as the studio version, but with a more-rock, less-disco feel. The band's performance of the song at their 30th anniversary show in Melbourne, Australia, was accompanied by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, who wore KISS-style makeup with their tuxedos.

Robert Palmer & UB40: "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight" (1988)




"I'll Be Your Baby Tonight" is a 1967 song by Bob Dylan first released on John Wesley Harding. It was cover by many artists throughout years, the most notable was the one by Robert Palmer and UB40 in 1988.

According to wikipedia, in 1988, Robert Palmer and UB40 released a cover version of the song. It was released on November 21, 1988, in United Kingdom, then in October 1990 in the European countries and in February 1991 in France. It features on Robert Palmer's albums Don't Explain and on the 1995 best of The Very Best of. The song was successful, particularly in Australia, Switzerland, Netherlands and Austria where it reached the top ten of the singles charts, and also secured a number six placing in the UK.

Stevie B. : "Because I Love You (The Postman Song)" (1990)




"Because I Love You (The Postman Song)" is a song recorded by Stevie B. The song peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in December, 1990 spending four weeks at number one and spending two weeks at number one on the Adult Contemporary chart [2], as well. It reached number six in the UK Singles Chart and number eight in the Australian Singles Chart.

The song listed at number 55 on Billboard magazines Top 100 songs for the 50th Anniversary of the Hot 100 chart.

Aimée Ann Duffy (born 23 June 1984), known as Duffy, is a Welsh singer-songwriter and occasional actress. Her 2008 debut album Rockferry entered the UK Album Chart at number one. It was the best-selling album in the United Kingdom in 2008 with 1.68 million copies sold. The album was certified several times Platinum and sold over 6 million copies worldwide, spawning the hits "Mercy" and "Warwick Avenue". With "Mercy", Duffy became the first Welsh female to achieve number-one on the UK Singles Chart since Bonnie Tyler topped the charts with "Total Eclipse of the Heart" in 1983.

In 2009, Duffy won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album for Rockferry, and she was nominated for two other Grammys at the 51st Grammy Awards. In 2009 she won three Brit Awards: British Breakthrough, Best Female Solo and Best British Album.

In 2010 she completed recording of her second album Endlessly that was released on 29 November and made her acting debut in the film Patagonia. In February 2011 it was announced that Duffy would take an extended hiatus from music before beginning work on her third album.

Plain White T's: "Hey There Delilah" (2005)




"Hey There Delilah," written by Tom Higgenson, is the third single released from the band Plain White T's 2005 album All That We Needed. In June 2007, over two years after the song's release, it became the band's first hit in the United States, eventually reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in July. From July 3, 2007 through July 28, the song was the number one most played song on the radio, and the number one downloaded song on the U.S. iTunes Music Store. Since its release, "Hey There Delilah" has been covered by many artists worldwide in one form or another. Since release, it has sold over 4,000,000 digital copies in the US alone.

It was the first number one single for the Plain White T's. It also reached number two in the UK. The song ended 2007 as the year's 14th biggest-selling single in the UK.

Although "Hey There Delilah" is from the Plain White Ts' third album, All That We Needed, since the single's popularity new versions of the intervening fourth album, Every Second Counts, have "Hey There Delilah" added as a bonus track with a string section augmenting the original recording. The music video for the song was directed by Jay Martin.

The song was written after Higgenson met Delilah DiCrescenzo, a nationally ranked American steeplechase and cross country runner. Excluding song titles with "God" or "Lord", the song was the sixth featuring a Biblical character in its title to hit the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Aaliyah: "Try Again" (2000)




"Try Again" is a Grammy-nominated single by American R&B singer Aaliyah. The song went to number one on the Billboard charts, received favorable reviews and was awarded two MTV Video Music Awards for Best Female Video and Best Video from a Film.

The song was written by Static Major and Timbaland, the latter also produced the single and is featured on it's intro.

Ram Jam: "Black Betty" (1977)




The song was first recorded in the field by U.S. musicologists John and Alan Lomax in 1933, performed a cappella by the convict James Baker (also known as Iron Head) and a group at Central State Farm, Sugar Land, Texas (a State prison farm).[13]

The Lomaxs were recording for the Library of Congress and later field recordings in 1934, 1936 and 1939 also include versions of "Black Betty". It was recorded commercially in New York in 1939 for the Musicraft label by Lead Belly, as part of a medley with two other work songs: "Looky Looky Yonder" and "Yellow Woman's Doorbells". Lead Belly had a long association with the Lomaxs, and had himself served time in State prison farms.

In 1977, the rock band Ram Jam — whose members included Bill Bartlett, formerly of Starstruck and The Lemon Pipers — rereleased an edit of the Starstruck recording of the song with producers Jerry Kasenetz and Jeff Katz under Epic Records. The song became an instant hit with listeners, as it reached number 18 on the singles charts in the United States and the top ten in the UK and Australia. At the same time, the lyrics became the cause of a boycott by civil rights groups NAACP and Congress of Racial Equality.

Claudio Baglioni & Morris Albert: "Feelings" (1999)




"Feelings" is a song based on a melody composed by Loulou Gasté and made famous by Morris Albert, who recorded it as the title track of his 1975 debut album. The song's lyrics, recognizable by their "whoa whoa whoa" chorus, concern the singer's inability to "forget my feelings of love."

Albert's original recording of the song was very successful, scoring #6 on the pop and #2 on the Adult Contemporary charts in America and performing well internationally. Over the next few years "Feelings" was performed by many other vocalists including Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, José José, Frank Sinatra, Engelbert Humperdinck, Shirley Bassey, Glen Campbell, Sarah Vaughan, Dobie Gray and Johnny Mathis. It was also recorded by numerous easy listening bandleaders and ensembles such as Percy Faith, Ferrante & Teicher and 101 Strings.

In more recent years "Feelings" has been best known as a target of parody and ridicule for embodying what are perceived by many as the most insipid lyrical and musical qualities of 1970s "soft rock" music. It appears frequently on lists of "the worst songs ever" and was included on the 1998 Rhino Records compilation album '70s Party Killers.

Because of sylistic similarities "Feelings" is sometimes mistakenly associated with Barry Manilow, though Manilow has never performed or recorded the song.

**Dispute over authorship:

In accordance with wikipedia, in 1981 the French songwriter Loulou Gasté sued Morris Albert for copyright infringement, claiming that "Feelings" plagiarized the melody of his 1957 song "Pour Toi". In 1988 Gasté won the lawsuit and was awarded 88% of the royalties generated by the song.

Recordings of the song have credited authorship variously to Albert alone, to Albert and Gasté, to Albert and Michel Jourdan, and to Albert and "Kaisermann". The last of these attributions is redundant, since the singer's real name is Mauricio Alberto Kaisermann.

LIonel Richie: "Hello" (1984)




"Hello" is a song by Lionel Richie. Taken as the third single from Richie's multi-platinum album Can't Slow Down, the song was released in 1984 and reached number one on three Billboard music charts: the pop chart (for two weeks), the R&B chart (for three weeks), and the adult contemporary chart (for six weeks).

The song also went to #1 on the UK Singles Chart. It is considered by many as Richie's signature song. The tune of the second verse of the song, beginning with the words: "I can see it in your eyes", is very similar to the second verse of another song, with minor note changes, that was written much earlier by a Ukrainian musician Volodymyr Ivasyuk in 1968 and is called "Chervona Ruta".

The song is particularly memorable for the line "Hello, is it me you're looking for?". In an interview broadcast in the UK on Channel 4's Top 100 Number One Hits, Richie said he had been thanked by a large number of normally tongue-tied men who had proposed marriage after a slow dance to the song.

Michael Jackson & Paul McCartney: "Say Say Say"(1983)




"Say Say Say" is a pop song that was written and performed by Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. The track was produced by George Martin for McCartney's fifth solo album, Pipes of Peace (1983).

The song was recorded during production of McCartney's 1982 Tug of War album, about a year before the release of "The Girl Is Mine"—the pair's first duet from Jackson's record-breaking album, Thriller (1982). After its release in October 1983, "Say Say Say" became Jackson's seventh top-ten hit inside a year. It was a number one hit in the United States, Norway, and Sweden, reached number two in the United Kingdom, and peaked within the top ten in Australia, Austria, New Zealand, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

Certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, the song was promoted with a music video directed by Bob Giraldi. The video, filmed in Santa Ynez Valley, California, featured cameo appearances by Linda McCartney and La Toya Jackson. The short film centers around two con artists called "Mac and Jack" (played by McCartney and Jackson), and is credited for the introduction of dialogue and storyline to music videos. The video was considered by the National Coalition on Television Violence to be too violent for broadcast in the US.

Murray Head: "Say It Ain't So Joe" (1975)




Murray Seafield Saint-George Head (born 5 March 1946) is a British actor and singer, most recognised for his international hit song, "One Night in Bangkok" and his album Say It Ain't So. He has been involved in several projects since the 1960s and continues to record music and make appearances on television either as himself or as a character actor.

Visage: "Fade To Grey "




"Fade to Grey" is the second single by the British pop group Visage, released on Polydor Records in November 1980. The song was the band's most successful single. It became a huge dance floor hit and entered the singles charts in early 1981, peaking at #8 in the UK Singles Chart and reaching #1 in both Germany and Switzerland.

The song's structure was primarily composed by Billy Currie and Christopher John Payne. While setting the track listing of the Visage album, Midge Ure composed the song's lyrics after Billy Currie suggested the use of the melody for the album. Steve Strange had singing lessons with Ure in order to maintain himself in tune and be recorded. Gary Numan commented in interview for the Numan Digest: "As far as I'm concerned Chris and Billy were the driving force behind writing 'Fade to Grey'. They used to work on it during the sound checks on my '79 tour. Cedric [Sharpley, who was the drummer of the Gary Numan's backing band] was also heavily involved. In those days it was called 'Toot City'". On the UK Channel 4 show "Top Ten New Romantics" in 1999, Steve Strange claimed to have been the one who came up with the idea for the French vocal in the track (a statement disputed by Midge Ure who claims this idea was his). However the original recording by Currie and Payne had featured a French vocal well before Ure and Strange were involved, and this was written by Payne who now lives in France. The French vocal was performed by Brigitte Arendt, a young student from Luxembourg who was Rusty Egan's girlfriend at the time.

A remix by Bassheads/Andy Stevenson was released in 1993 to promote the compilation album with the same title, becoming a modest Top 40 hit. Several other artists have made their own versions of this song. In 2008, Strange appeared on the BBC series Ashes to Ashes performing the song in the Blitz nightclub.
