Paradisio: "Bailando" (1996)




Paradisio is a Belgian dance music group. Paradisio were created in 1994 by Patrick ClubCarter (aka Patrick Samoy). Patrick was an ex-member of The Unity Mixers – the famous Belgian DJ remixers of the 1990s.

Composer and co-author in partnership with Marisa, Sandra, Marie-Belle Perez and Shelby for all Paradisio original titles.

In 1996, “Bailando” became the summer anthem in Belgium and subsequently went on to enjoy international success. Marisa Garcia and Dj Lorenzo were in the group between 1996 and 1998.

From 1999 to 2001 Sandra De Gregorio and Morena Esperanza were in the group. From 2001 to 2003 were Maria Del Rio and Miguel Fernandez from 2004 to 2005.

The current singer (since 2008) is the Hispanic-Italian Shelby Diaz, who tempts us onto the dance floor with her sensual voice.[citation needed] Shelby re-interprets “Bailando”, in 2009, which has been renamed “Bailando (Me Dices Adios)”.

Ricky Martin: "La Copa De La Vida (Spanglish)" 1998




"La Copa de la Vida" is a song recorded by Ricky Martin. It was released on March 3, 1998, as the second single from Vuelve. "La Copa de la Vida" became the official song of the 1998 FIFA World Cup and topped the charts in many countries around the world. The English-language version is called "The Cup of Life".

The 41st Grammy Awards are widely remembered for Ricky Martin's performance of "La Copa de la Vida", which was later included on his DVD, The Ricky Martin Video Collection.

The song was remixed by Pablo Flores.

Coumba Gawlo: "Pata Pata" (1998)




"Pata Pata" is a song by South African singer Miriam Makeba. The song was written by fellow southern African artist Dorothy Masuka and first released by Makeba in 1957 when she still lived in South Africa. The song was released in the United States in 1967 for her studio album of the same name. It was successful on the Billboard Hot 100, and peaked at #12.

The song is considered by many to be Makeba's signature hit and the song has since been covered by many artists. Originally written and sung in the Xhosa language, the song's title means "touch touch" in English.

The original version of Pata Pata is included in The Best of the Early Years (Miriam Makeba), a collection of 24 tracks released in 2002 by Wrasse, and the 40 track compilation Her Essential Recordings: The Empress of African Song (2006 Manteca). Makeba released a renovated version of the song, entitled "Pata Pata 2000", in her 2000 album Homeland.

In 2002, R&B guitarist Jonathan Butler recorded a rendition of this song from his album Surrender.

Mexican Superstar Thalía sang it for her 2000 Album Arrasando.

French-American singer and actress Arielle Dombasle covered the song featuring rapper Mokobé on her 2011 album Diva Latina.

"Blue (Da Ba Dee)" (also released as "I'm Blue" in some countries) is a eurodance song released in 1999 by Italian group Eiffel 65, as a single from their debut album Europop (1999).

The song is the group's most popular single, reaching number one in many countries such as Ireland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Sweden, Switzerland, New Zealand, Norway, Australia, and Germany, as well as reaching number six on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. In the United Kingdom, the song originally entered the Top 40 purely on import sales. It was only the third single to do this.

Tiziano Ferro: "Perdono" (2001)




Tiziano Ferro (born February 21, 1980 in Latina) is an Italian Latin pop singer. Ferro has sold more than eight million albums worldwide, and has won a Latin Grammy and a Europe MTV Music Award.

"Perdono" (also released under the title "Xdono") is a 2001 song recorded by Italian singer Tiziano Ferro. Released on June 26, 2001, it was the singer's debut single and lead one from his album Rosso Relativo, which was released four months later. It achieved huge success in many European countries and even topped the charts in the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Austria and Belgium (Wallonia). The song, considered as "sweet and melodious" in its Franco-Italian version, was much aired on radio in France. The music video was directed by Matteo Pellegrini.

Sara Evans: "Perfect" (2002)




"Perfect" is the title of a song written by Tom Shapiro, Tony Martin, and co-written and recorded by American country artist Sara Evans. It was released as the second single for her fourth studio album, Restless. The song was Evans' fifth Top 10 hit on the US Country Charts.

A music video was released for the song, directed by Bobby G. The video features Evans singing the song with an old-fashioned microphone in a T-shirt and jeans, as well driving a red car through the desert. It was shot at El Mirage Dry Lake Bed in The Mojave Desert.

The video reached the top of CMT's Top Twenty Countdown for the week of January 8, 2004.

Men At Work: "Be Good Johnny" (1982)




"Be Good Johnny" is a 1982 song by Australian band, Men at Work, from their first album, Business as Usual.

The song is written from the viewpoint of a 9-year-old boy who is constantly being told to be good, but prefers to daydream rather than concentrate in class or play sports. Johnny feels like he understands some of his instructions, but also that he is completely misunderstood by the adult world.[1] The lead singer, Colin Hay, uses his voice in different ways throughout the song to imitate Johnny, Johnny's mother and father, and his teacher. The song also features spoken dialog by keyboardist Greg Ham as he tries to figure out what Johnny is like. The title of the song is a reference to Johnny B. Goode.

Although the song was played moderately on US radio stations, it did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100 as it was not released in the states as a physical single, a criterion that was still used by the Hot 100 at the time. The song did chart and peaked at #3 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart in the US.

Colin Hay covered a solo version on his album Man @ Work, and this version is used as the theme song of the British and American versions of the reality TV program Supernanny.

Kid Cudi vs. Crookers: "Day 'n' Night" (2008)




"Day 'n' Nite" (listed as "Day 'n' Nite (Nightmare)" on the tracklist of Man on the Moon: The End of Day) is the debut single by alternative hip hop artist Kid Cudi. It was produced by Dot da Genius and released February 2008 as a single, but was leaked in December 2007 and was featured by many blogs in mid-November 2008. It is also the first official single from his first official album Man on the Moon: The End of Day. The song has so far sold over 2,000,000 digital downloads in the United States. The song was remixed in June 2008 by Italian Production duo Crookers, entering the charts at #10 and was ranked #15 the list Best 25 Songs of 2009 by Rolling Stone.

"Young Love" is a popular song, written by Ric Cartey and Carole Joyner and published in 1956.

The original version was recorded by Ric Cartey With The Jiva-Tones on November 24, 1956. It was originally released in 1956 by Stars Records as catalog number 539 and one month later by RCA Records as catalog number 47-6751. Cartey's version never charted, but better-known versions were released by Sonny James, Tab Hunter (in a version that did even better on the charts) and The Crew-Cuts.

Rocky Burnette: "Tired Of Toein' The Line" (1980)




Rocky Burnette was part of the early 1980s revival of the rockabilly style. He released his first album, Son of Rock 'n' Roll, on EMI America in 1979. In the summer of 1980, his single "Tired of Toein' the Line" became a Top Ten hit in the United States. The song was also popular internationally. EMI America's financial problems interfered with promotion efforts for the follow-up singles (several of which became hits in other countries), and Burnette's second album, Heart Stopper, was not successful.

In 1981, Burnette toured Europe with the final version of his late father's The Rock and Roll Trio. He also used the band on his next album, Get Hot or Go Home! on Enigma Records. It also sold poorly, and Enigma dropped Burnette and the Trio rather than release a follow-up.

Burnette worked with Rosie Flores and Dwight Twilley in the mid-1990s, and also contributed vocals and the original "Trouble Is I'm in Love With You" to Paul Burlison's 1997 Train Kept A-Rollin' . In 1996, Burnette released Tear It Up on Core Records, which went bankrupt almost immediately after its release.

Burnette continued to tour internationally, and wrote the European hit "You Got Away With Love" for Percy Sledge in 1997.

Unchain My Heart is the eleventh studio album by Joe Cocker, released in 1987.

Miller Lite used Joe Cocker's "Unchain My Heart" for their Dalmatian campaign as the dog jumps from the Budweiser Clydesdale horse-drawn carriage to the Miller Lite truck.

James Morrison: "Man In The Mirror" (2009)




"Man in the Mirror" is a song recorded by Michael Jackson and written and composed by Glen Ballard and Siedah Garrett. It peaked at number one in the United States when released as a single in January 1988 off his seventh solo album, Bad. It is one of Jackson's most critically acclaimed songs and it was nominated for Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards.

According to wikupedia, the song topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks. The song peaked at number 21 in the UK Singles Charts in 1988, but in 2009, following the news of Jackson's death, the song peaked at number two, behind Cascada's "Evacuate the Dancefloor," having re-entered the chart at 11 the previous week as his top song on the singles chart. It also became the No. 1 single in iTunes downloads in the U.S. and the U.K.

Nelly Furtado: "I'm Like A Bird" (2000)




"I'm Like a Bird" is a song written by Canadian singer-songwriter Nelly Furtado, and produced by Gerald Eaton and Brian West, as the first single from her first album Whoa, Nelly!. It was one of the year's critically acclaimed songs and widely considered as Furtado's signature song. Furtado said that "I'm Like a Bird" is her favourite song: "There's a simplicity about it that I love," she explained. "It's my freedom song".

It was one of the most successful singles of 2001, reaching number one in Canada, number two in Australia and New Zealand, number five in the UK, and number nine in the United States.

It also has received critical acclaim for its free-themed lyrical and Furtado's singing vocal, and became one of the most critically acclaimed songs of 2001. In addition to its critical acclaim, the song won the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Song of the Year. The song won for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, making Furtado the first female act to win the award from her debut single since Mariah Carey did so ten years earlier. Lionel Richie: "Hello" (1984)




"Hello" is a song by Lionel Richie. Taken as the third single from Richie's multi-platinum album Can't Slow Down, the song was released in 1984 and reached number one on three Billboard music charts: the pop chart (for two weeks), the R&B chart (for three weeks), and the adult contemporary chart (for six weeks).

The song also went to #1 on the UK Singles Chart. It is considered by many as Richie's signature song. The tune of the second verse of the song, beginning with the words: "I can see it in your eyes", is very similar to the second verse of another song, with minor note changes, that was written much earlier by a Ukrainian musician Volodymyr Ivasyuk in 1968 and is called "Chervona Ruta".

The song is particularly memorable for the line "Hello, is it me you're looking for?". In an interview broadcast in the UK on Channel 4's Top 100 Number One Hits, Richie said he had been thanked by a large number of normally tongue-tied men who had proposed marriage after a slow dance to the song.

Peter Gabriel: "Biko" (1986)




"Biko" is a protest song by British rock musician Peter Gabriel. The song was included on Gabriel's third album, Peter Gabriel (1980). It is about Steve Biko, a noted black South African anti-apartheid activist. Biko had been arrested by the South African police in late August 1977. After being held in custody for several days, he was interrogated in room 619 of the Walmer Street prison in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. Following the interrogation, during which he sustained serious head injuries, Biko was transferred to a prison in Pretoria, where he died shortly afterwards, on 12 September 1977. Gabriel often plays the song at the end of concerts, encouraging the audience to join in the singing, and eventually leaving only the drummer on stage. The album version of the song is bookended by a recording of the South African song “Senzeni Na?” as sung at Biko’s funeral.

"Biko" was first released as a single in 1980, when it reached #38 on the British charts. A live version, recorded in July 1987 at the Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, was released later that year, reaching #49 in the UK. This version was included on the soundtrack of Cry Freedom, a 1987 film about Steve Biko. "Biko" was also featured prominently in "Evan", the next-to-last episode of the first season of the American television show Miami Vice.

One line of the lyrics reads "Yehla Moya" which in Xhosa means "Come Spirit".

Roxy Music: "Jealous Guy" (1981)




"Jealous Guy" is a song written and performed by John Lennon which first appeared on his 1971 album Imagine. It is one of the most commonly covered Lennon songs, with at least ninety-two recorded cover versions, the most notable being Roxy Music's version, which reached number one in several countries three months after John Lennon's death.

According to wikipedia, following Lennon's death in 1980, Roxy Music added a cover version of the song to their set while touring in Australia, which they recorded and released in March 1981. This attracted some criticism at the time as it was suggested that they were cashing in on the success of Lennon's work following his death. The single was released by Polydor with "To Turn you on" as the B-side, with catalogue number "ROXY 2". The song was the only UK #1 hit for Roxy Music, topping the charts for two weeks in March 1981. Its B-side, called "To Turn You On", appeared on the 1982 album "Avalon", although it was slightly remixed. "Jealous Guy" featured on the compilation "Bryan Ferry & Roxy Music: The Platinum Collection".

U2: "Mysterious Ways SONG" (1991)




"Mysterious Ways" is a song by Irish rock band U2 and the eighth track from their 1991 album Achtung Baby. It was released as the album's second single on 25 November 1991. The song began as a improvisation, with the band only liking the bass part that bassist Adam Clayton composed. The band struggled to build a song from it, with vocalist Bono and producer Daniel Lanois arguing intensely during one songwriting session. Progress was made after guitarist The Edge introduced a new effects pedal to his guitar playing in the song. "Mysterious Ways" features a danceable beat, funky guitar hook, and conga-laden percussion, as well as mystical lyrics about romance and women.

According to wikipedia, the song received praise from critics after the release of Achtung Baby, which many calling it one of the album's standout tracks. The song was also successful as a single on the music charts, including several Billboard charts. It reached number one on the Modern Rock Tracks and Album Rock Tracks charts, and in the US, it peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the fourth-best mark for a U2 single on the chart.

Rolling Stones: "You Can't Always Get What You Want" (Live - 2006 - Saitama; Japan)




"You Can't Always Get What You Want" is a song by The Rolling Stones released on their 1969 album Let It Bleed.

Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, it was named as the 100th greatest song of all time by Rolling Stone (magazine) in its 2004 list of "500 Greatest Songs of All Time."

"You Can't Always Get What You Want" was recorded on 16 and 17 November 1968 at London's Olympic Sound Studios. It features the London Bach Choir opening the song, highlighting throughout, and bringing it to its conclusion. Jimmy Miller, the Rolling Stones' producer at the time, plays drums on this song instead of Charlie Watts. Al Kooper plays piano and organ and also played the French horn intro, while Rocky Dijon plays congas and maracas. Nanette Workman sings backup vocals, but she is credited as "Nanette Newman".[citation needed]

Although Jagger and Jimi Hendrix were good friends at the time of the song's release[citation needed], the line "I sang my song to Mr. Jimmy" is a reference to Jimmy Miller. The story about Jagger meeting a drifter named Jimmy Hutmaker is apocryphal[citation needed]. The rest of the line says "and he said one word to me and that was dead"; at that time the Stones and Miller used "dead" to refer to something they really liked[citation needed], so when Jagger sang the original song idea to Miller, his response was "dead!". The song's meeting place for Jagger and Mr. Jimmy is the Chelsea Drugstore, which opened in London in 1968.

Of the song, Jagger said in 2003[citation needed], "'You Can't Always Get What You Want' was something I just played on the acoustic guitar - one of those bedroom songs. It proved to be quite difficult to record because Charlie couldn't play the groove and so Jimmy Miller had to play the drums. I'd also had this idea of having a choir, probably a gospel choir, on the track, but there wasn't one around at that point. Jack Nitzsche, or somebody, said that we could get the London Bach Choir and we said, 'That will be a laugh.'"

In his review of the song, Richie Unterberger says, "If you buy John Lennon's observation that the Rolling Stones were apt to copy the Beatles' innovations within a few months or so, "You Can't Always Get What You Want" is the Rolling Stones' counterpart to 'Hey Jude.'" Jagger said in 1969, "I liked the way the Beatles did that with 'Hey Jude'. The orchestra was not just to cover everything up - it was something extra. We may do something like that on the next album."

New Order: 'Blue Monday' (Live - 1984)




New Order were an English musical group formed in 1980 by Bernard Sumner (vocals, guitars, synthesizers), Peter Hook (bass, backing vocals, electronic drums) and Stephen Morris (drums, electronic drums, synthesizers). New Order were formed after of the demise of their previous group Joy Division, following the suicide of vocalist Ian Curtis. They were soon joined by keyboardist Gillian Gilbert.

New Order combined post-punk and electronic dance, and became one of the most critically acclaimed and highly influential bands of the 1980s. Though New Order's early years were shadowed by the legacy of Joy Division, their immersion, with help from Morris D. Temple, in the New York City club scene of the early 1980s increased their knowledge of dance music. The band's 1983 hit "Blue Monday" saw them fully embrace dance music, synthesizers and drum machines, and is the best-selling 12-inch single of all time. New Order were the flagship band for Factory Records, and their minimalist album sleeves and non-image reflected the label's aesthetic of doing whatever the relevant parties wanted to do, including an aversion to including singles as album tracks. The band has often been acclaimed by fans, critics and other musicians as a highly influential force in the alternative rock, dance and rave music scenes.

New Order were on hiatus between 1993 and 1998, during which time the members participated in various side-projects. The band reconvened in 1998, and in 2001 released Get Ready, their first album in eight years. In 2005, Phil Cunningham (guitars, synthesizers) replaced Gilbert, who had left the group due to family commitments.

In 2007, Peter Hook left the band and stated that he and Sumner had no further plans to work together. Sumner revealed in 2009 that he no longer wishes to make music as New Order. Sumner and Cunningham now work together under a new band name, Bad Lieutenant.
