Rockwell: "Somebody's Watching Me" (1984)
"Somebody's Watching Me" is the debut single by R&B artist Rockwell, released on the Motown label in 1984. The song's lyrics relate the narrator's paranoid fear of being followed and watched. It featured former Motown artists Michael Jackson on the chorus and Jermaine Jackson on additional backing vocals.
Rockwell is the son of Motown CEO Berry Gordy Jr. At the time of the recording Rockwell was estranged from his father and living with Ray Singleton, his father's ex-wife. Singleton served as executive producer on the project and would occasionally play some demo tracks to Berry Gordy. The elder Gordy was less than enthusiastic about Rockwell's music until he heard the single with a familiar voice featured prominently on background vocals.
Produced by Curtis Anthony Nolen, the song featured backing vocals by ex-Motown artist Michael Jackson. "Somebody's Watching Me" peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1984, and reached the top of the Billboard R&B singles chart, as well as reaching number six on the UK Singles Chart.
The single's music video underscores the song's paranoid tone with a haunted house-inspired theme, including imagery of floating heads, ravens, graveyards, and shower scenes referencing the novel Psycho. The mailman who appears in the music video for "Somebody's Watching Me" also stars in the video for "Obscene Phone Caller". This was a low budget video. Music video produced by The Wolfe Company, directed by Francis Delia, cinematography by Dominic Sena, production manager: Jason Braunstein, production coordinator: Jon Leonoudakis. Leonoudakis appears in the video as the visual metaphor "watching" Rockwell through the porthole of the front door.
- Lyrics:
Somebody's Watching Me

Music & Lyrics : Rockwell
Notes : Michael Jackson is in the choir !
I'm just an average man with an average life
I work from nine to five, hey, hell, I pay the price
All I want is to be left alone in my average home
But why do I always feel like I'm in the twilight zone
I always feel like somebody's watching me
Who's playing tricks on me
I always feel like somebody's watching me
When I come home at night
I bolt the door real tight
People call me on the phone, I'm trying to avoid
But can the people on TV see me or am I just paranoid
When I'm in the shower I'm afraid to wash my hair
Cause I might open my eyes and find someone standing there
People say I'm crazy, just a little touched
But maybe showers remind me of Psycho too much
That's why...
I always feel like somebody's watching me
Who's playing tricks on me
I always feel like somebody's watching me
Tell me it can't be
(instrumental)
I don't know anymore
Are the neighbors watching me
Well is the mailman watching me
And I don't feel safe anymore, oh what a mess
I wonder who's watching me now--- (BOOO!) -The IRS?
I always feel like somebody's watching me
Who's playing tricks on me
I always feel like somebody's watching me
I can't enjoy my tea
The Go Go's: "This Town" (Live - Rio 1985)
* First Video:
* Second Video: The Go Go's Interview
The song "This Town" is the 5th of "Beauty and the Beat", the debut album from Californian all-female band The Go-Go's. Released in 1981 on the IRS Records label, the album was preceded by the single "We Got the Beat," which became a massive club hit in Europe and, later, the United States. When the album was eventually released, it steadily climbed the Billboard 200 chart, ultimately peaking at number one, where it remained for six consecutive weeks. The L.P. sold in excess of three million copies and reached double platinum status, making it one of the most successful debut albums of all time. It is now widely considered as one of the cornerstone albums of 1980s new wave music. It was the first, and is the only, album entirely written and performed by an all-female band to top the charts.
The title is a play on the European fairy tale Beauty and the Beast.
In 2003, the album was ranked number 413 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. This album was chosen as one of Amazon.com's Top 100 Editor's Picks of 2005. The lead single and album opener, "Our Lips Are Sealed," has been covered over the years by numerous artists, and remains a staple of '80s playlists. It is frequently cited as one of the Top 100 and Top 50 songs of the '80s. Rolling Stone magazine has named it one of the Top 100 Pop Singles of all time. "We Got the Beat" has been named one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.
The album gained a deluxe remastered compact disc when EMI released the Beauty and the Beat 30th Anniversary Edition on May 17, 2011. Disc one features the remastered original album while disc 2 offers an entire live show, recorded at the Metro Club in Boston on August 20, 1981. Both Vacation (1982) and Talk Show (1984) were previously issued in remastered CD form in 1999.
- Lyrics:
We all know the chosen toys
Of catty girls and pretty boys
Make up that face
Jump in the race
Life's a kick in this town
Life's a kick in this town
[Chorus:]
This town is our town
It is so glamorous
Bet you'd live here if you could
And be one of us
Change the lines that were said before
We're all dreamers - we're all whores
Discarded stars
Like worn out cars
Litter the streets of this town
Litter the streets of this town

Katrina & The Waves: "Walking On Sunshine" (1985)
"Walking on Sunshine" is a song written by Kimberley Rew for Katrina and the Waves' 1983 eponymous debut full-length album. A rerecorded version was released on the band's 1985 self-titled album as the album's second single (see 1985 in music) and reached No. 4 in Australia, No. 9 in the United States, and No. 8 in the United Kingdom. It is the Waves' first U.S. top 40 hit, and their biggest success in the UK until "Love Shine a Light" (1997). Conceived of as a ballad, Katrina decided the better part of valor was to belt the song out.
2010 was the 25th anniversary of the release of "Walking on Sunshine" and a series of back-catalog re-releases and a re-recorded version of the track are being released. A free download of one of the tracks from Kimberley Rew's solo album 'Bible of Bop' was given away in March 2010 from the band's website.
Royalties from airplay and advertisements of "Walking on Sunshine" has been extremely high. Katrina and the Waves kept the publishing rights and the royalties that typically go to the songwriter have been divided among the band members, though Katrina Leskanich was fired from the band in 1998. Estimates are that the song has earned $1 million per year for the ten years ending in 2010. According to a former employee of EMI, "Walking on Sunshine was the crown jewel in EMI's catalog," and that it was one of EMI's biggest earners from advertisers.
- Lyrics:
I used to think maybe you loved me, now baby I'm sure
And I just can't wait ‘til the day, when you knock on my door
Now everytime I go for the mailbox, gotta hold myself down
‘Cause I just can't wait till you write me, you're comin' around
Now I'm walking on sunshine (whoa oh)
I'm walking on sunshine (whoa oh)
I'm walking on sunshine (whoa oh)
And don't it feel good, hey, all right now, and don't it feel good, hey, yeah
I used to think maybe you loved me, now I know that it's true
And I don't wanna spend my whole life, just a waitin' for you
Now I don't want you back for the weekend, not back for a day, no-no-no
I said baby I just want you back, and I want you to stay
Oh yeah...Now I'm walking on sunshine (whoa oh)
I'm walking on sunshine (whoa oh)
I'm walking on sunshine (whoa oh)
And don't it feel good, hey, all right now, and don't it feel good, hey, yeah
Oh yeah, and don't it feel good
guitar solo
Walkin' on sunshine...walkin' on sunshine...yeah
I fell alive, I feel a love, I feel a love that's really real
I fell alive, I feel a love, I feel a love that's really real
I'm on sunshine baby, oh, oh yeah, I'm on sunshine baby, oh
I'm walkin' on sunshine (whoa oh )
I'm walkin' on sunshine (whoa oh )
I'm walkin' on sunshine (whoa oh )
And don't it feel good, hey, all right now
And don't it feel good, I say it, say it, say it again, now
And don't it feel good, hey, yeah now
And don't it feel good, now don't it, don't it, don't it, don't it , don't it
Don't it feel good, I say it, I say it, I say it again, now
And don't it feel good, don't it, don't it, don't it (vamp out)
Duran Duran: "Ordinary World" (2003)
Duran Duran are an English band, formed in Birmingham in 1978. They were one of the most successful bands of the 1980s and a leading band in the MTV-driven "Second British Invasion" of the United States, where they were first seen in the 1981 film Listen to London. Since the 1980s, they have placed 14 singles in the Top 10 of the UK Singles Chart and 21 in the Billboard Hot 100 and have, according to the Sunday Mercury, sold more than 100 million records. While they were generally considered part of the New Romantic scene along with bands such as Spandau Ballet when they first emerged, they later shed this image. The band worked with fashion designers to build a sharp and elegant image that earned them the nickname "the prettiest boys in rock." The band's controversial videos, which included partial nudity and suggestions of sexuality, became popular in the early 1980s on the then-new music video channel MTV. Duran Duran were among the first bands to have their videos shot by professional directors with 35 mm film movie cameras, which gave their videos a much more polished look. In 1984, the band were early innovators with video technology in their live stadium shows.
The group was formed by Nick Rhodes, John Taylor and Stephen Duffy, with the later addition of Roger Taylor and, after numerous personnel changes, Andy Taylor and Simon Le Bon. (None of the Taylors are related, and Roger Taylor is not to be confused with the Queen drummer of the same name.) The group has never disbanded, but the lineup has changed to include guitarist Warren Cuccurullo from 1986 to 2001 and drummer Sterling Campbell from 1989 to 1991. The reunion of the original five members in the early 2000s created a stir among the band's fans and music media. Andy Taylor left the band in mid-2006, and London guitarist Dom Brown has since been working with the band as a session player and touring member.
- Lyrics:
Came in from a rainy Thursday
on the avenue
thought I heard you talking softly
I turned on the lights, the TV
and the radio
still I can't escape the ghost of you
What has happened to it all?
Crazy, some'd say
Where is the life that I recognize?
gone away
But I won't cry for yesterday
there's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
and as I try to make my way
to the ordinary world
I will learn to survive
Passion or coincidence
once prompted you to say
"Pride will tear us both apart"
Well now pride's gone out the window
cross the rooftops
run away
left me in the vacuum of my heart
What is happening to me?
Crazy, some'd say
Where is my friend when I need you most?
Gone away
but I won't cry for yesterday
there's an ordinary world
somehow I have to find
and as I try to make my way
to the ordinary world
I will learn to survive
Papers in the roadside
tell of suffering and greed
here today, forgot tomorrow
ooh, here besides the news
of holy war and holy need
ours is just a little sorrowed talk
And I don't cry for yesterday
there's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
and as I try to make my way
to the ordinary world
I will learn to survive
every one
is my world, I will learn to survive
any one
is my world, I will learn to survive
any one
is my world
every one
is my world
Nazareth: "Love Hurts" (1976)
"Love Hurts" is the name of a song, written and composed by Boudleaux Bryant. First recorded by The Everly Brothers in July 1960, the song is also well known from a 1975 international hit version by the rock band Nazareth and in the UK by a top 5 hit in 1975 by Jim Capaldi.
The song was introduced in December 1960 as an album track on A Date with The Everly Brothers, but was never released as a single (A-side or B-side) by the Everlys. The first hit version of the song was by Roy Orbison, who earned Australian radio play, hitting the Top Five of that country's singles charts in 1961. A recording by Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons was included on Parsons' posthumously released Grievous Angel album. After Parsons' 1973 death, Harris made the song a staple of her repertoire, and has included it in her concert set lists from the 1970s to the present. Harris has since re-recorded the song twice.
The most successful recording of the song was by hard rock band Nazareth, who took the song to the U.S. Top 10 in 1975 and hit number one in Norway and the Netherlands. In the UK the most successful version of the song was by former Traffic member Jim Capaldi, who took it to number four in the charts in November 1975 during a 11-week run. The song was also covered by Cher in 1975 for her album Stars. Cher re-recorded the song in 1991 for her album of the same name.
- Lyrics:
Love hurts
love scares
love wounds and mares any heart
Not tough nor strong enough to take a lot of pain
Take a lot of pain
love is like a cloud
holds a lot of rain.
Love hurts
love hurts
I'm young I know but even so
I know a thing or two I've learned from you
I've really learned a lot
really learned a lot.
Love is like a stove
burns you when it's hot.
Love hurts
love hurts
some fools rave of happiness
Blissfulness
togetherness
some fools fool themselves
I guess
But they're not fooling me I know it isn't true
No
it isn't ture. Love is just a lie made to make you blue.
Love hurts
love hurts.
Love hurts
love scares
love wounds and mares any heart

Whitesnake: "Is This Love" (1987)
"Is This Love" is a song by the English hard rock band Whitesnake. The song is taken from their multi-platinum self-titled album, which released in 1987.
The song was written by vocalist David Coverdale and guitarist John Sykes during the albums early writing process (which took place in the south of France), but it was long rumored that the song had originally been written for pop artist Tina Turner. Coverdale confirmed these rumours in the booklet of Whitesnake's 20th anniversary edition, by saying:
"Before I'd left [for the south of France] a friend at EMI had asked me for any ideas that would work for Tina Turner. So that was where the original idea for 'Is This Love' came from."
Even though the song was in the similar style as many power ballads of the '80s, "Is This Love" became one of the most popular power ballads and one of the most popular Whitesnake-songs ever. The song reached #87 on VH1's "100 Greatest Love Songs"-list and #10 on their list of "Greatest Power Ballads".
The single was a huge hit for Whitesnake, reaching number 9 in the UK Singles Chart and number 2 in the US singles chart, making it their second-biggest US hit after "Here I Go Again" which hit number 1. The single was reissued in 1994 to promote Whitesnake's Greatest Hits, The single was re-issued in 1994 to promote the band's Greatest Hits, and featured the song "Sweet Lady Luck" (which was previously only available as B-side to "The Deeper the Love"-single) and "Now You're Gone." This version reached number 25 on the UK Singles Chart.
A music video was also made which received much airplay on MTV, largely thanks to featuring Coverdale's then-girlfriend actress Tawny Kitaen. The music video depicts the band playing the song on a misty stage, inter-cut with scenes of Coverdale singing, Kitaen dancing and the two of them together. The music video greatly helped Whitesnake's exposure in the US.
The Audio Thieves featuring Uniting Nations covered this song in their 2006 album Dance Cover. Also in 2006, Thomas Anders covered the song for his album Songs Forever.
- Lyrics:
I should have known better
Than to let you go alone
It's times like these
I can't make it on my own
Wasted days, and sleepless nights
An' I can't wait to see you again
I find I spend my rime
Waiting on your call
How can I tell you, babe
My back's against the wall
I need you by my side
To tell me it's alright
Cos I don't think I can take anymore
Is this love that I'm feeling
Is this the love that I've been searching for
Is this love or am I dreaming
This must be love
Cos it's really go a hold on me
A hold on me
I can't stop the feeling
I've been this way before
But, with you I've found the key
To open any door
I can feel my love for you
Growing stronger day by day
An' I can't wait too see you again
So I can hold you in my arms
Is this love that I'm feeling
Is this the love that I've been searching for
Is this love or am I dreaming
This must be love
Cos it's really got a hold on me
A hold on me
Is this love that I'm feeling
Is this the love that I've been searching for
Is this love or am I dreaming
Century: "Why Lover Why" (1986)
Century are a French rock band formed in Marseille in 1985. Led by singer and composer Jean-Louis Milford, Century are probably best known for their single "Lover Why" from the album And... Soul It Goes in 1986. In Brazil, the tracks "Gone with the Winner" was theme from the soap opera called Hipertensão, and "Lover Why" was theme from the soap opera called Ti Ti Ti, both in 1986, by the Rede Globo TV.
Their hit "Lover why" peaked at #1 (x7) in France[1] and Portugal and #11 in Switzerland. Their second single, "Jane" reached only to number 35 in France.
The band was composed of Jean-Louis Milford (keyboards), Éric Traissard (guitar), Laurent Cokelaere (bass), Christian Portes (drums) and a second guitarist replaced with Jean-Dominique Sallaberry. The lyrics of early successes of the group were all written by Paul Ives. The band split off in 1989[2]. However, the composer/singer, Jean-Louis Milford teamed up with lyricist Francis Nugent Dixon, and since 1989, they have worked together. After several unsuccessful albums, they produced a double CD in 2004 (Timeless).
- Lyrics:
A sign of time
I lost my life, forgot to die
Like any man, a frightened guy
I'm keeping memories inside
Of wounded love
But I know
I'm more than sad and more today
I'm eating words too hard to say
A single tear and I'm away
Away and gone
I need you
So far from hell, so far from you
'Cause heaven's hard and black and gray
You're just a someone gone away
You never said goodbye
Why, lover why ?
Why do flowers die ?
Why, lover why ?
Everytime
I hear your voice, you heard my name
You built the fire, wet the flame
I swim for life, can't take the rain
No turning back
I need you
So far from hell, so far from you
'Cause heaven's hard and black and gray
You're just a someone gone away
You never said goodbye
Why, lover why ?
Why do flowers die ?
Why, lover why ?
Why, lover why ?
Why do flowers die ?
Why, lover why ?

- Lyrics:
Josie's on a vacation far away
Come around and talk it over
So many things that I wanna say
You know I like my girls a little bit older
I just wanna use your love tonight
I don`t wanna lose your love tonight
I ain`t got many friends left to talk to
Nowhere`s around when I`m in trouble
You know I`d do anything for you
Stay the night, but keep it under cover
I just wanna use your love tonight, woh!
I don`t wanna lose your love tonight
Try to stop my hands from shaking
Something in my mind`s not making sense
It`s been awhile since we`ve been all alone
I can`t hide the way I`m feeling
As you leave me, please, won't you close the door
And don`t forget what I told you
Just cause you`re right, that don`t mean I`m wrong
Another shoulder to cry upon
I just wanna use your love tonight, yeah
I don`t wanna lose your love tonight
Yeah, I just wanna use your love tonight
I don`t wanna lose your love tonight
I just wanna use your love tonight
I don`t wanna lose your love tonight
(Use your love, lose your love) Your love
(Use your love) Well I don’t wanna lose
(Lose your tonight) I don’t wanna, I don’t wanna
I don’t wanna lose (Use your tonight) Your love
(Lose your tonight) Your love, your love
(Use your tonight) Your love
(I don’t lose your love tonight) Aaaahh
(Use your tonight) Your love

Robert Plant: "When The Levee Breaks" (Later with Jools Holland)
"When the Levee Breaks" is a blues song written and first recorded by husband and wife Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in 1929. The song is in reaction to the upheaval caused by the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927.
It was re-worked by English rock group Led Zeppelin as the last song on their fourth album, released in 1971. The lyrics in Led Zeppelin's version, credited to Memphis Minnie and the individual members of Led Zeppelin, were partially based on the original recording. Many other artists have also recorded versions of the song or played it live.
- Lyrics:
If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break, [X2]
When The Levee Breaks I'll have no place to stay.
Mean old levee taught me to weep and moan, [X2]
Got what it takes to make a mountain man leave his home,
Oh, well, oh, well, oh, well.
Don't it make you feel bad
When you're tryin' to find your way home,
You don't know which way to go?
If you're goin' down South
They go no work to do,
If you don't know about Chicago.
Cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
Now, cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
When the levee breaks, mama, you got to move.
All last night sat on the levee and moaned, [X2]
Thinkin' about me baby and my happy home.
Going, going to Chicago... Going to Chicago... Sorry but I can't take you...
Going down... going down now... going down....

Jason Mraz - "You and I Both"(Live at EBS Space)
"You and I Both" is a song by Jason Mraz released as the third and final single from his debut album Waiting for My Rocket to Come.
- Lyrics:
Was it you who spoke the words that things would happen but not to me
Oh things are gonna happen naturally
Oh taking your advice I'm looking on the bright side
And balancing the whole thing
But often times those words get tangled up in lines
And the bright lights turn to night
Until the dawn it brings
Another day to sing about the magic that was you and me
Cause you and I both loved
What you and I spoke of
And others just read of
Others only read of the love, the love that I love.
See I'm all about them words
Over numbers, unencumbered numbered words
Hundreds of pages, pages, pages forwards
More words then I had ever heard and I feel so alive
You and I, you and I
Not so little you and I anymore
And with this silence brings a moral story
More importantly evolving is the glory of a boy
Cause you and I both loved
What you and I spoke of
And others just dream of
And if you could see me now
Well I'm almost finally out of
I'm finally out of
Finally deedeedeedee
Well I'm almost finally, finally
Well I'm free, oh, I'm free
And it's okay if you have go away
Oh just remember the telephone works both ways
And if I never ever hear them ring
If nothing else I'll think the bells inside
Have finally found you someone else and that's okay
Cause I'll remember everything you sang
Cause you and I both loved what you and I spoke of
and others just read of and if you could see now
well I'm almost finally out of.
I'm finally out of, finally, deedeeededede
well I'm almost finally, finally, finally out of words.

Guns N' Roses: "Don't Cry" (1991)
"Don't Cry" is a song by rock band Guns N' Roses, two versions of which were released simultaneously on different albums. The version with the original lyrics is the fourth track on Use Your Illusion I, while the version with the alternate lyrics is the thirteenth track on Use Your Illusion II. Only the vocal tracks differ, and even then only in the verses; however, in those verses, not only are the words entirely different, but the meter and melody are also slightly different. There is also a third version, officially released only on the single for the song, which was recorded during Appetite for Destruction sessions in 1986.
In accordance with wikipedia, the song features Shannon Hoon of Blind Melon on backing vocals. Shannon grew up in the small town of Dayton, Indiana, which neighbors Axl Rose's hometown of Lafayette, Indiana. The two became friends when they subsequently met in Los Angeles and discovered they were from the same state.[citation needed] He also appears in the video for the song. It was originally intended to be the first commercial single release before the Illusions were released in 1991, but "You Could Be Mine" was chosen instead to coincide with the release of the movie Terminator 2.
"Don't Cry" forms a segment of the Illusions Trilogy, according to singer Axl Rose. Along with "Estranged" and "November Rain," it forms a narrative inspired in part by the short story "Without You" by Del James.
During the interviews for their Making F@#$ing Videos edition for "Don't Cry", Rose stated that the song is about a woman leaving a man. The song was written about a girl that Izzy used to go out with, and Axl was attracted to. Here are some quotes from Axl about the incident: "It was [about] a girl that Izzy had gone out with, and I was really attracted to her, and they split up, and we wrote the song", "I was sitting outside the Roxy, and you know, I was like really in love with this person, and she was realising this wasn't going to work, she was doing her things, she was telling me goodbye, and I like sat down, and just started crying, and she was telling me 'don't cry'. Next night we got together and wrote the song in 5 minutes. He'd been through some things with her, himself".
The song peaked at #10 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the band's fifth Top 10 hit there.
- Lyrics:
Talk to me softly
There is something in your eyes
Don't hang your head in sorrow
And please don't cry
I know how you feel inside I've
I've been there before
Somethin is changin' inside you
And don't you know
Don't you cry tonight
I still love you baby
Don't you cry tonight
Don't you cry tonight
There's a heaven above you baby
And don't you cry tonight
Give me a whisper
And give me a sign
Give me a kiss before you
tell me goodbye
Don't you take it so hard now
And please don't take it so bad
I'll still be thinkin' of you
And the times we had...baby
And don't you cry tonight
Don't you cry tonight
Don't you cry tonight
There's a heaven above you baby
And don't you cry tonight
And please remember that I never lied
And please remember
how I felt inside now honey
You gotta make it your own way
But you'll be alright now sugar
You'll feel better tomorrow
Come the morning light now baby
And don't you cry tonight
And don't you cry tonight
And don't you cry tonight
There's a heaven above you baby
And don't you cry
Don't you ever cry
Don't you cry tonight
Baby maybe someday
Don't you cry
Don't you ever cry
Don't you cry

Ronan Keating - If Tomorrow Never Comes
"If Tomorrow Never Comes" is a song recorded by American country music artist Garth Brooks. Written by Brooks and Kent Blazy, it was released on his self-titled 1989 debut album Garth Brooks and also appears on The Hits, The Limited Series and Double Live. This was his first #1 single on the Billboard Country Singles chart. It is also sometimes referred to as his signature song. "If Tomorrow Never Comes" was named Favorite Country Single in the American Music Awards of 1991. It has subsequently become one of Brooks' most popular songs for other artists to perform.
"If Tomorrow Never Comes" served as the first single from Irish singer/songwriter Ronan Keating's second studio album, Destination. The song was produced by Steve Mac. The song peaked at #1 on the UK Singles Chart, as well as making the Top 10 in Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, France and Australia. The song was declared as the second highest-selling single of 2002.
- Lyrics:
Sometimes late at night,
I lie awake and I watch her sleeping,
She's lost in peaceful dreams,
So I turn out the light.
I lay there in the dark,
And the thought crosses my mind,
If I never wake in the morning,
Would she ever doubt,
the way I feel about her in my heart...
If tomorrow never comes,
Will she know how much I loved her?
Did I try in every way?
To show her everyday
She's my only one.
And if my time on earth were through,
She must face this world without me.
Is the Love I gave her in the past...
Gonna be enough to last?
If tomorrow never comes!
'Cos I've lost loved ones in my life,
Who never knew how much I loved them.
Now I live with no regret,
The natural feelings for them
Never will reveal
So I made a promise to myself
Say each day how much she means to me
And avoid that circumstance
Where there's no second chance
To tell her how I feel
If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I loved her
Did I try in every way
To show her everyday
She's my only one!
If my time on earth were through
She must face this world without me
Is the Love I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last?
If tomorrow never comes
So tell that someone that you Love,
Just what you're thinkin of...
If tomorrow never comes...
Tracy Chapman: "Baby Can I Hold You" (1988)
* First Video:

"Baby Can I Hold You" is the third single from American contemporary folk artist Tracy Chapman, released in late 1988. The song succeeded in reaching the top fifty in the U.S., unlike its predecessor, "Talkin' 'bout A Revolution", but it failed to become Chapman's second top forty hit, peaking at #48. It did, however, give her a second chart entry on the U.S. Adult Contemporary charts, peaking at #19 in early 1989. (Her first adult contemporary hit was "Fast Car", which reached #7 on the AC charts.) Given the commercial decline Chapman suffered following the release of her second album Crossroads, "Baby Can I Hold You" also became her last top fifty hit until 1996's "Give Me One Reason".
Neil Diamond recorded the song for his 1989 album, The Best Years of Our Lives and became the first of many artists to cover the song.
Chapman subsequently re-recorded the song as a duet with Luciano Pavarotti for the CD Pavarotti and Friends for Cambodia and Tibet. And it was re-released as a single in promotion of the hits package "Collection" which hit #3 in the UK in 2001.
- Lyrics:
Sorry
Is all that you can't say
Years gone by and still
Words don't come easily
Like sorry like sorry
Forgive me
Is all that you can't say
Years gone by and still
Words don't come easily
Like forgive me forgive me
But you can say baby
Baby can I hold you tonight
Maybe if I told you the right words
At the right time you'd be mine
I love you
Is all that you can't say
Years gone by and still
Words don't come easily
Like I love you I love you

John Lee Hooker: "Boom boom" (Live - 1962)
"Boom Boom" is a 1961 song written and performed by John Lee Hooker that is listed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. Hooker's single was recorded in late 1961 with Ivy Jo Hunter, piano; Hank Cosby, tenor saxophone; Andrew "Mike" Terry, baritone saxophone; James Jamerson, bass; Larry Veeder, guitar; Benny Benjamin, drums. It was not a big U.S. hit when originally released, but became a UK hit after featuring in a Lee Jeans commercial in 1992, peaking at #16 in the UK Singles Chart.
In 1961, Hooker's version peaked at #60 while The Animals' version peaked at #43 on the U.S. pop singles chart in 1965 (#14 in Canada). This version became one of the most recognizable songs from that time when The Animals added "shake it baby" to the refrain alongside Burdon's screaming "come on and shake..."
Many other recordings exist, by The Yardbirds, Belast Gypsies, Shadows of Knight, CCS (1970), Dr. Feelgood (1974) and others. In the film The Blues Brothers, Hooker performs the song as a South Side Chicago street musician, but the song itself is not included in the soundtrack of the film. Over the years Eric Burdon released re-recordings and live recordings of the song. Alan Price, [former Animals keyboard player] has also covered it in recent years. On Hooker's 1972 album Live at Soledad Prison, the track is titled and performed as "Bang Bang Bang Bang." The Animals did a reunion tour in late 1983/early 1984. The version recorded at the Wembley Arena from 31 December 1983 was released in August 1984. They added a few sequences more.
According to wikipedia, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band frequently covered the song, in a fashion similar to the Animals' version, on their 1988 Tunnel of Love Express Tour. In 1997, Big Head Todd & the Monsters recorded a cover of the song for their album Beautiful World, releasing it as a single the following year. In 2009, The Oak Ridge Boys recorded a cover of the song featuring bass singer Richard Sterban on the lead vocals. Their rendition is closer to The Animals' rendition in that they include the "shake it baby" refrain. The song was included in the "Boom Boom trailer" for the 2010 video game Mafia II by 2K Czech.
- Lyrics:
Boom boom boom boom
I'm gonna shoot you right down,
right offa your feet
Take you home with me,
put you in my house
Boom boom boom boom
A-haw haw haw haw
Hmmm hmmm hmmm hmmm
Hmmm hmmm hmmm hmmm
I love to see you strut,
up and down the floor
When you talking to me,
that baby talk
I like it like that
Whoa, yeah!
Talk that talk, walk that walk
When she walk that walk,
and talk that talk,
and whisper in my ear,
tell me that you love me
I love that talk
When you talk like that,
you knocks me out,
right off of my feet
Hoo hoo hoo
Talk that talk, and walk that walk

The Animals: "House of the Rising Sun" (1964)
Animals - "House Of The Rising Sun" (1964)
Eric Burdon - Vocals
Alan Price - Keyboard
Hilton Valentine - Lead Guitar
Chas Chandler - Bass Guitar
John Steel - Drums
"The House of the Rising Sun" is a folk song from the United Kingdom. Also called "House of the Rising Sun" or occasionally "Rising Sun Blues", it tells of a life gone wrong in New Orleans.
The most successful commercial version was recorded by the English rock group The Animals in 1964, which was a number one hit in the United Kingdom, United States, Sweden and Canada.
- Lyrics:
My mother was a tailor
She sewed my new bluejeans
My father was a gamblin' man
Down in New Orleans
Now the only thing a gambler needs
Is a suitcase and trunk
And the only time he's satisfied
Is when he's on a drunk
------ organ solo ------
Oh mother tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Spend your lives in sin and misery
In the House of the Rising Sun
Well, I got one foot on the platform
The other foot on the train
I'm goin' back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain
Well, there is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one
The Police: "Dont Stand So Close To Me" (1980)
"Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" is a song by British rock group The Police from their studio album Ghost in the Machine. It was also a hit single that reached the top of the charts in the United Kingdom in November 1981 and hit number three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart that same year.
Although released in 1981, Sting had written this song as early as 1976. A very early (1977) acoustic version of this song performed by him can be heard on the Strontium 90 album Strontium 90: Police Academy.
Sting added this bit of "Every Little Thing..." lyrics to the end of "O My God" on the Police's 1983 release Synchronicity:
"Do I have to tell the story
Of a thousand rainy days
Since we first met?
It's a big enough umbrella
But it's always me that ends up getting wet."
These lyrics were later reused once more in Sting's "Seven Days" on his solo album Ten Summoner's Tales.
The piano part was added by session keyboardist Jean Roussel who pestered the band to allow him to play on the track, against Andy Summers' original wishes.
- Lyrics:
Though I've tried before to tell her
Of the feelings I have for her in my heart
Every time that I come near her
I just lose my nerve
As I've done from the start
Every little thing she does is magic
Everything she do just turns me on
Even though my life before was tragic
Now I know my love for her goes on
Do I have to tell the story
Of a thousand rainy days since we first met
It's a big enough umbrella
But it's always me that ends up getting wet
Every little thing she does is magic
Everything she do just turns me on
Even though my life before was tragic
Now I know my love for her goes on
I resolve to call her up a thousand times a day
And ask her if she'll marry me in some old fashioned way
But my silent fears have gripped me
Long before I reach the phone
Long before my tongue has tripped me
Must I always be alone?
Every little thing she does is magic
Everything she do just turns me on
Even though my life before was tragic
Now I know my love for her goes on

Carl Douglas: "Kung Fu fighting" (1974 )
* First Video: Original Video CLip
* Second Video: "Karaoke"
"Kung Fu Fighting" is a song written and performed by Carl Douglas and Vivian Hawke, and produced by Biddu. It was released as a single in 1974, at the cusp of a chopsocky film craze, and quickly rose to the top of British and American charts. "Kung Fu Fighting" was also number one on the soul singles chart for one week. The song also is famous for its use of the quintessential Oriental Riff, a short musical phrase that is used to signify Chinese culture.
It originally was meant to be a B-side to I Want to Give You My Everything (written by Brooklyn songwriter Larry Weiss, Sung by Carl Douglas), and was recorded in the last ten minutes of his studio time.
Douglas states that his inspiration to write the song was affected by three factors: he had seen a kung fu movie, later visited a jazz concert by Oscar Peterson, and was suffering from side-effects of pain killers (Douglas had injured his foot playing football). Another account gives his inspiration simply as seeing two kids in London doing kung fu moves.
Kung Fu Fighting was rated #100 in VH1's 100 Greatest one-hit wonders, and number 1 in the UK Channel 4's Top 10 One Hit Wonders list in 2000, the same channel's 50 Greatest One Hit Wonders poll in 2006 and Bring Back ... the one-hit Wonders, for which Carl Douglas performed the song in a live concert.
- Lyrics:
Oh-hoh-hoh-hoah
Oh-hoh-hoh-hoah
Oh-hoh-hoh-hoah
Oh-hoh-hoh-hoah
[Chorus:]
Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting
Those kicks were fast as lightning
In fact, it was a little bit frightening
But they fought with expert timing
There was funky China men from funky Chinatown
They were trapping them up
They were trapping them down
It's an ancient Chinese art
And everybody knew their part
From a fainting, to a slip
And a kickin' from the hip
Everybody was Kung Fu fighting
Those kids were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit fright'ning
But they fought with expert timing
There was funky Billie Jim and little Sammy Chong
He said, here comes the big boss, let's get it on
We took the bow and made a stand
Started swaying with the hand
A sudden motion made me skip
Now we're into a brand new trip
Everybody was Kung Fu fighting
Those kids were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit fright'ning
But they did it with expert timing
Oh-hoh-hoh-hoh,ha
Oh-hoh-hoh-hoh,ha
Oh-hoh-hoh-hoh-ha
Keep on, keep on, keep on
Sure enough
Everybody was Kung Fu fighting
Those kids were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit fright'ning
Make sure you have expert timing
Kung Fu fighting, had to be fast as lightning...
