The Outfield: "Your Love " (1986)

"Your Love" is a song from The Outfield's debut album, Play Deep. It was written by John Frederick Spinks. The song reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1986.

The song has been covered by ska/punk band Less than Jake on the Goodbye Blue and White album and the band The Rescues on their album "Crazy Ever After" (2008).

The Punk Goes... series includes two covers of the song: one by Midtown on Punk Goes 80's and another by I See Stars on Punk Goes Classic Rock.

It has also been covered by Wyclef Jean featuring Eve as a reggae mix on the soundtrack to Adam Sandler's 50 First Dates. Another cover of this song exists by German euro-trance group Topmodelz, released in 2007. Another cover has been done by Burn Your Wishes featuring current guitarist for Killswitch Engage, Adam Dutkiewicz, and current guitarist for Unearth, Ken Susi. It has also been covered by Coheed & Cambria front-man Claudio Sanchez on his side-project The Prize Fighter Inferno. The song has also been covered by the North Carolina-based, queercore group The Butchies as a slow ballad on their album Make Yr Life. An acoustic version was recorded in 1992 and is featured on the 80's Hits Stripped compilation. Emma Burgess covered the song in 2006 on her album "Swim", which appeared on the ABC Family show "Wildfire" in February 2008. Katy Perry covered the song in 2007 for her Ur So Gay EP. The title was changed to "Use Your Love" and a few of the lyrics were altered. Software maker Intuit has used this song in a viral marketing campaign [1] for Quickbooks by creating Jingles for business owners.

R&B singer Lloyd also sampled the chorus in his song "Lose Your Love", from his 2008 album Lessons in Love. It was produced by Big Reese & Jasper. Rapper B.o.B sampled the song in his 2008 song "Use Ur Love", produced by Jim Jonsin. Rapper Charles Hamilton also sampled it for use in a song entitled "Theories of Wine".

Bon Iver covered the song (10/11/2009) at the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee. Indie rock band The Decemberists have been performing a cover of the song live since as early as 2005. Canadian alternative country artist Kathleen Edwards has also covered this song in her live shows. Canadian electro artist Just Lucky remixed the song in 2009. Massachusetts melodic hardcore band A Wilhelm Scream covered the song on the Australian release of their eponymous EP. The band Radio Cult released a cover of the song on their album "Retroactive" in 2007.

- Lyrics:

Josie's on a vacation far away
Come around and talk it over
So many things that I wanna say
You know I like my girls a little bit older

I just wanna use your love tonight
I don`t wanna lose your love tonight

I ain`t got many friends left to talk to
Nowhere`s around when I`m in trouble
You know I`d do anything for you
Stay the night, but keep it under cover

I just wanna use your love tonight, woh!
I don`t wanna lose your love tonight

Try to stop my hands from shaking
Something in my mind`s not making sense
It`s been awhile since we`ve been all alone
I can`t hide the way I`m feeling

As you leave me, please, won't you close the door
And don`t forget what I told you
Just cause you`re right, that don`t mean I`m wrong
Another shoulder to cry upon

I just wanna use your love tonight, yeah
I don`t wanna lose your love tonight
Yeah, I just wanna use your love tonight
I don`t wanna lose your love tonight
I just wanna use your love tonight
I don`t wanna lose your love tonight

(Use your love, lose your love) Your love
(Use your love) Well I don’t wanna lose
(Lose your tonight) I don’t wanna, I don’t wanna
I don’t wanna lose (Use your tonight) Your love
(Lose your tonight) Your love, your love
(Use your tonight) Your love
(I don’t lose your love tonight) Aaaahh
(Use your tonight) Your love
