Corona: "The Rhythm of the Night" (1995)
"The Rhythm of the Night" is the debut single by the Italian band Corona. It was released in 1994.
This song is inspired from an english pop song called "Save me" performed by the Say When!, released in 1987.
It was the first single from their 1994 debut album The Rhythm of the Night. The song was released first in 1993, then on August 5, 1994 for the remixes version. Particularly devoted to the dancefloors, it had a great success, reaching the highest positions in various Singles Charts around the world. It peaked at #1 in Italy. It also reached #11 on the U.S. Billboard chart in early 1995.
In the United Kingdom it was released in September 1994 and reached #2, kept off the top by Whigfield's Saturday Night, and stayed in the UK Singles Chart for 18 weeks.
The song was prominently featured in arthouse movie Beau travail, directed by Claire Denis.
- Lyrics:
Well I'm feelin' left behind, Lord what a waste of time
They're coming to get you, run on
How can I respect your crime
When all you criminals whine
They bought and sold you, run on, run on
You can call me crazy
You can call me wrong
Cause I was born a liar
Albatross fly on, fly on
My home is kind, man it pays to be blind
I promise to forget you run on
No swallowed pride, no conspiracy lined
Broken promise of the virtue, run on, Lord run on
You can call me lazy
But I know where I belong
Cause I was born a liar
Albatross, fly on, fly on
With your trust in love from your God above...
I believe the Albatross is me
You can call me lazy
You can call me wrong
Cause I was born a liar
Albatross, fly on, fly on
I should have seen the signs
Now the memories far behind
It was no big loss,
Fly on, Albatross yeah
