Five Satins: "In The Still of The Night" (1956)

The Five Satins are an American doo wop group, best known for their 1956 million selling song, "In the Still of the Night".

"In the Still of the Night" was originally released as the b-side to the single, "The Jones Girl". According to wikipedia, the single was initially issued on the tiny local "Standord" label and after some local Connecticut sales, it was released the following year on the New York label "Ember", and "In the Still of the Night" ended up charting at number three on the R&B chart and number 25 on the pop charts.

I sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc.

- Lyrics:

In the still of the night
I held you
Held you tight
'Cause I love
Love you so
Promise I'll never
Let you go
In the still of the night

I remember
That night in May
The stars were bright above
I'll hope and I'll pray
To keep your precious love
Well before the light
Hold me again
With all of your might
In the still of the night
(In the still of the night)

So before the light
Hold me again
With all of your might
In the still of the night
(In the still of the night)
In the still of the night
