O-Zone: "Dragostea Din Tei" (2004)

"Dragostea din tei" (English: Love from the Linden Trees), also informally known as "The Numa Numa Song" (or "Mai Ya hee" – see lyrics), is the most successful single by the Moldovan pop group O-Zone, sung in Romanian. It shot to the number one spot on the Eurochart Hot 100, where it remained for 12 weeks between June and early September 2004.

It reached number one in Germany and stayed there for 14 weeks, number three in the United Kingdom and 72 on the U.S. Pop 100, and it was number one for 15 weeks in France. A popular cover of the song was made by Haiducii, which also charted in many countries, especially Italy and Sweden where it topped the singles charts. The original song was made notable in the United States by the viral video of Gary Brolsma dancing to the song, calling it "Numa Numa".

In 2008, the song's hook was sampled by T.I. / Rihanna in their hit "Live Your Life", which topped the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States and reached number two in the United Kingdom.

- Lyrics:

Ma-ia-hii
Ma-ia-huu
Ma-ia-hoo
Ma-ia-haa

Alo, Salut, sunt eu, un haiduc,
Si te rog, iubirea mea, primeste fericirea.
Alo, alo, sunt eu Picasso,
Ti-am dat beep, si sunt voinic,
Dar sa stii nu-ti cer nimic.

[Refrain] x2 :
Vrei sa pleci dar nu ma, nu ma iei,
Nu ma, nu ma iei, nu ma, nu ma, nu ma iei.
Chipul tau si dragostea din tei,
Mi-amintesc de ochii tai.

Te sun, sa-ti spun, ce simt acum,
Alo, iubirea mea, sunt eu, fericirea.
Alo, alo, sunt iarasi eu, Picasso,
Ti-am dat beep, si sunt voinic,
Dar sa stii nu-ti cer nimic.

[Refrain] x2

Ma-ia-hii
Ma-ia-huu
Ma-ia-hoo
Ma-ia-haa

[Refrain] x2

Eric Carmen: "Hungry Eyes" (1988)

"Hungry Eyes" is a song performed by Eric Carmen, and was featured in the film Dirty Dancing. The song was recorded at Beachwood Studios in Beachwood, OH in 1987. "Hungry Eyes" peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts in 1988.

The song was not released commercially in the UK, but it managed to peak at #82 in January 1988, having charted purely on import sales.

It was written by John DeNicola and Franke Previte. DeNicola and Previte also co-wrote, with Donald Markowitz, the song "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" also from Dirty Dancing.

- Lyrics:

Hungry Eyes

I've been meaning to tell you
I've got this feelin' that won't subside
I look at you and I fantasize
You are mine tonight
Now I've got you in my sights

With these hungry eyes
One look at you and I can't disguise
I've got hungry eyes
I feel the magic between you and I

I want to hold you so hear me out
I want to show you what love's all about
Darlin' tonight
Now I've got you in my sights

With these hungry eyes
One look at you and I can't disguise
I've got hungry eyes
I feel the magic between you
And I've got hungry eyes
Now I've got you in my sights
With these hungry eyes
Now did I take you by surprise

I need you to see
This love was meant to be

I've got hungry eyes
One look at you and I can't disguise
I've got hungry eyes
I feel the magic between you
And I've got hungry eyes
Now I've got you in my sights
With those hungry eyes
Did I take you by surprise

With my hungry eyes

Hoodoo Gurus: "My Girl" (1983)

"My Girl" was the third single by iconic Australian rock group Hoodoo Gurus and was released on Big Time Records and distributed by EMI in October, 1983; it peaked at #35 on the Australian charts. It was written by Dave Faulkner and was also on their first album Stoneage Romeos. The single was also subsequently released in the United Kingdom in 1985 by Demon Records with a different cover sleeve and a different B-side, "Leilani".

The quirky video for the song was shown on Australian Broadcasting Corporation's popular TV series Countdown and is based around a dog trainer and his former champion greyhound: as suggested by former member Kimble Rendall, who had left Gurus to return to film-making.

"To this day people insist the song was 'written about a dog'. Oh, well. The truth is, it was meant to be part of a never-made home movie, a tribute to 60's beach movies entitled 'Gidget Goes Ape'." - Dave Faulkner.

"It was a love song about love songs, a tribute to all the ‘60s boy-girl love songs, and I felt bad that some people would get quite sad about it —‘That poor guy!’—because it was just a joke!" - Dave Faulkner.

The greyhound that wins the race in the video is Winifred Bale and the race is the 1983 National Sprint at Harold Park in Australia.

According to Faulkner the B-side, "Be My Guru",

"has always been our unofficial anthem and we loved to play it whenever we felt an audience was too comfortable during a show. This was the first of what we called our 'Punishment Songs'. It was put on the flip-side of 'My Girl' to add a bit of acid to the sugar, so to speak."- Dave Faulkner.

The music video locations include: Belvue St, Glebe; Wentworth Park; the pub was the Central Markets in Darling Harbour, was next to what is now the Pumphouse. The UTS Tower is also briefly visible as Faulkner grooms the greyhound early in the video. The dog was borrowed from Donnie Sutherland (of Sounds Unlimited/Sounds fame).

"My Girl" was performed by Spiderbait on the 2005 tribute album Stoneage Cameos (see Stoneage Romeos), Spiderbait also performed "My Girl Part 2"; where "Be My Guru" was performed by Persian Rugs (containing Hoodoo Gurus' Faulkner, Brad Shepherd and Mark Kingsmill together with bassist Kendall James). The album was launched at the Meadows Greyhound Racing Track in Broadmeadows, Victoria in reference to the video for "My Girl".

- Lyrics:

Once a girl took my love until I couldn't give anymore,
Then I tried to pretend not to see what I couldn't ignore.
My girl don't love me at all
Anymore.

I took her to the dance and then I didn't see her all night.
Then a friend said he saw her with some other boy just outside.
When I went out she was alone.
She said, "I would like to go home"
I asked her, "Who were you with?"
She said, "No-one."
I could tell that she lied
(And a voice said inside)
My girl don't love me at all
Anymore.
Not at all.

Günther Feat. Samantha Fox: "Touch Me (I Want Your Body)" (Live 29/11/2004)

"Touch Me (I Want Your Body)" was the first hit for British singer Samantha Fox. It was released in 1986 from her first album Touch Me.

The single was a worldwide hit, peaking at number four in the United States (usually a tough market for international acts), number three in her native UK, and topping the Australian and Canadian charts. In Canada, the single stayed for seven weeks at number one. The single stayed at the top of Sweden's music chart for eight weeks, succeeded by Fox's second single "Do Ya Do Ya (Wanna Please Me)".

- Lyrics:

[Günther & Samantha Fox]
Touch me...
touch me...
touch me now...

[Samantha Fox]
Touch me, touch me, I wanna feel your body,
Your heart beat next to mine,
Touch me, touch me now...
Touch me, touch me now...

[Günther]
Full moon in the city and the night was young,
I was hungry for love, I was hungry for fun,
I was hunting you down, and I was the bait,
When I saw you there, I didn't need to hesitate.

[Samantha Fox]
This is the night, this is the night,
This is the time, we've got to get it right...

(This is the night)
Touch me, touch me, I wanna feel your body,
Your heartbeat next to mine,
(This is the night)
Touch me, touch me now...
Touch me, touch me now...

[Günther]
Hot and cold emotion, confusing my brain,
I could not decide between pleasure and pain,
Like a tramp in the night, I was begging for you
To treat my body like you wanted to .

[Samantha Fox]
this is the night, this is the night,
this is the time, we've got to get it right...

(this is the night)
Touch me, touch me, I wanna feel your body,
Your heartbeat next to mine,
(This is the night)
Touch me, touch me now...
Touch me, touch me now...

Touch me, touch me, I wanna feel your body,
Your heartbeat next to mine,
(This is the night)
Touch me, touch me now...
Touch me, touch me now...

[Günther & Samantha Fox]
touch me, touch me now...
touch me, touch me now...
touch me, touch me now...
touch me, touch me now, yeah...

[Samantha Fox]
(This is the night)
Touch me, touch me, I wanna feel your body,
Your heartbeat next to mine
(This is the night)
'cos I want your body, all the time...

Touch me, touch me, I wanna feel your body,
Your heartbeat next to mine,
(This is the night)
Touch me, touch me now...
Touch me, touch me now...

[Günther & Samantha Fox]
Touch me, touch me now... (x5)

Take That: "The Flood" (2010)

"The Flood" is a song by British pop group Take That from their sixth studio album, Progress. It was released as the lead single in the United Kingdom on 7 November 2010. The song is the first to feature Robbie Williams since his return to the band in July 2010, and features Gary Barlow and Williams on lead vocals.

The video features the five members of the band racing against another crew in specially-made five-seater Sculling boats. The band's boat is named "Progress" after the record breaking number 1 album, whilst the band wear old-fashioned white rowing kits, bearing a custom-designed Take That crest. The group are shown to be competing in a race against a younger crew and although losing the race, the group continue going past the finish line and are shown to row down the River Thames past famous London landmarks before fading away into a stormy sea. The video for the single was filmed on Dorney Lake in Buckinghamshire, which will play host to the rowing events at the 2012 Olympics.

The single has been gaining rave reviews across the media and social network sites since its first play at BBC Radio 1 with social network users and fans commenting on the single as "incredible". On the documentary Look Back, Don't Stare Elton John listens to an early demo of the song with the band and comments "Brilliant, do you know how big this is gonna be?"

Digital Spy awarded the single 4 stars commenting that the single "reveals itself to be a genuinely epic pop belter" whilst The News of The World gave the song 5 stars by saying the single is "already hailed as a classic to rival Back for Good" and with "a mammoth anthem, it'll sound even better when [Take That] belt it out in concert". The Telegraph again praised the single stating "The Flood is a stirring us-against-the-world pop anthem that blends the best of Williams’ rabble rousing instincts with Gary Barlow’s smooth songwriting." Orange agreed with this view, stating that "when it comes to perfect pop, they're still the masters of their game".

- Lyrics:

Standing, on the edge of forever,
At the start of whatever,
Shouting love at the world.
Back then, we were like cavemen,
We’d beam at the moon and the stars,
Then we forgave them.

We will meet you where the lights are,
The defenders, of the faith we are.
Where the thunder turns around they’ll run so hard we’ll tear the ground away.

You know no one dies, in these love town lies,
Through our love drowned eyes, we’ll watch you sleep tonight.

Although no one understood we were holding back the flood,
Learning how to dance the rain.
We were holding back the flood they said we’d never dance again.

Bleeding, but none of us leaving,
Watch your mouth son or you’ll find yourself floating home.
Here we come now on a dark star, seeing demons, not what we are.
Take That The Flood lyrics found on

Tiny minds and eager hands hands will try to strike but now will end today.

There’s progress now where there once was none, where there once was ah, then everything came along.

Although no one understood, we were holding back the flood learning how to dance the rain.
There was more of them than us now they’ll never dance again.

Although no one understood there was more of them than us learning how to dance the rain, We were holding back the flood they said we’d never dance again.

We will meet you where the lights are,
The defenders, of the faith we are.
Where the thunder turns around they’ll run so hard we’ll tear the ground away.

Although no one understood, there was more of them than us learning how to dance the rain.
(learning how to dance the rain)
There was more of them than us now they’ll never dance again.

Now we’ll never dance again.

Oh ahh, Oh ahh, Oh ahh, Oh ahh, Oh aah, Oh ahh, Oh ahh...

BB King ft. Tracy Chapman: "The Thrill is Gone" (1997)

"The Thrill Is Gone" is a blues song written by Rick Darnell and Roy Hawkins in 1951 and popularized by B.B. King in 1970.

The song was first recorded by Roy Hawkins, its co-author, and became a minor hit for the musician. B.B. King recorded his version of the song in June 1969 for his album Completely Well, released the same year. The song's polished production and use of strings marked a departure from both the original song and King's previous material. When released as a single in December 1969, the song became the biggest hit of King's career (#3 R&B / #15 Pop) and his signature song. B. B. King's recording earned him a Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and a Grammy Hall of Fame award in 1998. King's version of the song was also placed at number 183 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest songs ever. Memorable live versions of the song were included on King's albums Live in Cook County Jail (1971), Bobby Bland and B.B. King Together Again...Live (1976), and Live at San Quentin (1991).

The thrill is gone
The thrill is gone
I can see it in your eyes
I can hear it in your sighs
Feel your touch and realize
The thrill is gone

MONOLOGUE: YEAH, YEAH! The night is cold, YEAH! For love is old, yeah,
that's what I thought, YEAH! Yeah, love was grand when it was brand-new,
YEAH! Birds were singin' and all them skies were blue, YEAH! Now it doesn't
appeal to you.. YEAH, darlin', the thrill is gone, YEAH, YEAH!!

This is the end
So why pretend
And let it linger on?

** Other Version:

The Thrill Is Gone

Thopson Twins: "Hold Me Now" (1983)

"Hold Me Now" is a song by British pop/new wave band the Thompson Twins. Written by the band members, the song was produced by Alex Sadkin, and the group's lead vocalist Tom Bailey. It was released in November 1983 as the first single of their fifth studio album, Into The Gap. The song is a new wave ballad that uses a varied instrumentation, including a xylophone, a piano and Latin percussion.

Released in the United Kingdom in late 1983, the song peaked at number four on the UK Singles Chart in November of that year, and was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) in 1983, becoming the band's biggest-selling single, and their first top five in that country. The song was released in the United States in February 1984. It became the band's highest charting single, peaking at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 in May, and remained in the chart for twenty-one weeks. In addition, the song topped Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart for one week in April 1984.

- Lyrics:

I have a picture pinned to my wall
an image of you and of me
And we're laughin' with love at it all.
Look at our life now
tattered and torn

We fuss and we fight and delight in the tears
That we cry until dawn.

Oh
oh
hold me now. Oh
warm my heart

Stay with me
let lovin' start
let lovin' start.
You say I'm a dreamer
we're two of a kind

Both of us searching for some perfect world
We know we'll never find.
So perhaps I should leave here
yeah-yeah
go far away

But you know that there's nowhere
That I'd rather be than with you here today.
Oh
oh
hold me now. Oh
warm my heart
. . .
Oh
hold me now. Oh
warm my heart
. . .

You asked if I love you
what can I say?
You know that I do and that this is just one of those games that we play.
So I'll sing you a new song
please
don't cry anymore

I'll even ask your forgiveness though I don't know
Just what I'm asking it for.
Oh
oh
hold me now. Oh
warm my heart
. . .
Oh
hold me now. Oh
warm my heart
. . .
Oh
hold me now. Oh
warm my heart
. . .
Oh
hold me now. Oh
warm my heart
. . .

Roy Orbison: "In Dreams" (2004)

"In Dreams" is a song composed and sung by rock and roll performer Roy Orbison. An operatic ballad of lost love, it was released as a single on Monument Records in February 1963. It became the title track on the album In Dreams, released in July of the same year. The song has a unique structure in seven musical movements in which Orbison sings through two octaves, beyond the range of most rock and roll singers.

The song peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 charts at number 7, and charted in England for five months while Orbison toured sharing billing with The Beatles. It gained notability again in 1987 when Orbison released a re-recorded anthology of his greatest hits; the year prior David Lynch had used the song provocatively in his dark thriller Blue Velvet, helping to revive Orbison's career. The theme of the song was interwoven in similar compositions throughout his tenure as a musician. As a result, several collections of Orbison's music share the title of the song. Rolling Stone listed "In Dreams" at number 312 of their 500 Greatest Songs of All Time in 2004.

- Lyrics:

A candy-colored clown they call the sandman
Tiptoes to my room every night
Just to sprinkle stardust and to whisper
"Go to sleep. Everything is all right."

I close my eyes, Then I drift away
Into the magic night. I softly say
A silent prayerLike dreamers do.
Then I fall asleep to dream My dreams of you.

In dreams I walk with you. In dreams I talk to you.
In dreams you're mine. All of the time we're together
In dreams, In dreams.

But just before the dawn, I awake and find you gone.
I can't help it, I can't help it, if I cry.
I remember that you said goodbye.

It's too bad that all these things, Can only happen in my dreams
Only in dreams In beautiful dreams.

- Lyrics:

Sometimes I imagine the world without you
But most times I'm just so happy that I ever found you
It's a complicated web that you weave inside my head
So much pleasure with such pain
Hope we always, always stay the same

I'm feeling the way you cross my mind
And you save me in the nick of time
I'm riding the highs
I'm digging the lows
'Cause at least I feel alive
I've never faced so many emotional days
But my life is good
I'm feeling you
I'm feeling you

You go and then I can finally breathe in
'Cause baby I know in the end you're never leaving
Well we're rarely ever sane
I drive you crazy and you do the same
But your fire fills my soul
And it warms me up like no one knows

I'm feeling the way you cross my mind
And you save me in the nick of time
I'm riding the highs
I'm digging the lows
'Cause at least I feel alive
I've never faced so many emotional days
But my life is good
I'm feeling you
I'm feeling you

I'm feeling the way you cross my mind
And you save me in the nick of time
I'm riding the highs
I'm digging the lows
'Cause at least I feel alive
I've never faced so many emotional days

I'm feeling the way you cross my mind
And you save me in the nick of time
I'm riding the highs
I'm digging the lows
'Cause at least I feel alive
I've never faced so many emotional days
But my life is good
I'm feeling you
I'm feeling you
I'm feeling you
I'm feeling you

Oh, I'm feeling the way that you cross my mind
And the way that you save me in the nick of time
Oh, I'm feeling the way when you walk on by
I feel light, I feel love
I feel butterflies

Bruce Springsteen: Tougher Than The Rest

"Tougher Than the Rest" is a song by Bruce Springsteen from his 1987 Tunnel of Love album. It was released as a single in some countries, following "Brilliant Disguise" and the title track, but was not released as a single in the United States. Although it was not released as a single in the United States, it reached as high as #3 on the Swiss charts, and also reached the Top 20 in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Austria.

Like much of the Tunnel of Love album, "Tougher Than the Rest" was recorded in Springsteen's home studio, called Thrill Hill East, between January and May 1987 with several members of the E Street Band. On this song, Springsteen played several instruments and is backed by Danny Federici on organ and Max Weinberg on percussion. Although it was originally written as a rockabilly song, the final version has a slower and more methodical rhythm..

- Lyrics:

Well It's Saturday night
you're all dressed up in blue
I been watching you awhile
maybe you been watching me too
So somebody ran out
left somebody's heart in a mess
Well if you're looking for love
honey I'm tougher than the rest

Some girls they want a handsome Dan
or some good-lookin' Joe on their arm
Some girls like a sweet-talkin' Romeo
Well 'round here baby
I learned you get what you can get
So if you're rough enough for love
honey I'm tougher than the rest

The road is dark
and it's a thin thin line
But I want you to know I'll walk it for you any time
Maybe your other boyfriends
couldn't pass the test
Well if you're rough and ready for love
honey I'm tougher than the rest

Well it ain't no secret
I've been around a time or two
Well I don't know baby maybe you've been around too
Well there's another dance
all you gotta do is say yes
And if you're rough and ready for love
honey I'm tougher than the rest
If you're rough enough for love
baby I'm tougher than the rest

Neil Diamond: "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon "

"Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon" is a song written by Neil Diamond, whose recording of it on Bang Records reached #10 on the U.S. pop singles chart in 1967. The song garnered a second life span when it appeared on the 1994 Pulp Fiction soundtrack, performed by rock band Urge Overkill. The stereo "Just For You" LP version has a shorter fade and the strings come in on the first chorus..

- Lyrics:

Girl, you'll be a woman soon

Love you so much can't count all the ways
I'd die for you girl and all they can say is
"He's not your kind"
They never get tired of puttin' me down and
I never know when I come around
What I'm gonna find
Don't let them make up your mind
Don't you know

Girl, you'll be a woman soon
Please come take my hand
Girl, you'll be a woman soon
Soon, you'll need a man

I've been misunderstood for all of my life
But what they're sayin', girl, just cuts like a knife
"The boy's no good"
Well, I finally found what I've been lookin' for
But if they get a chance they'll end it for sure
Sure they would
Baby I've done all I could it's up to you

Girl, you'll be a woman soon
Please come take my hand
Girl, you'll be a woman soon
Soon, you'll need a man

Break

Girl, you'll be a woman soon
Please come take my hand
Girl, you'll be a woman soon
Soon, you'll need a man

Soon, you'll need a man

Unforgettable Songs: "Woman In Love"

"Woman in Love" is a popular 1980 song performed by Barbra Streisand and taken from her album, Guilty. The song was written by Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb of The Bee Gees.

After the success enjoyed by the Bee Gees in the late 1970s, the band was asked to participate in musical endeavors for other artists, and Streisand asked Barry Gibb to write an album for her. This album ultimately became Guilty; "Woman in Love", as the lead single, became one of the most successful songs of Streisand's music career. In accordance with wikipedia, it spent a total of three weeks at the #1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Streisand's fifth (and last, so far) #1 on this chart. The others were: "The Way We Were" (1974); "Evergreen (Love Theme from A Star Is Born, 1977); "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" (duet with Neil Diamond, 1978); and "No More Tears (Enough is Enough)" (duet with Donna Summer, 1979). It also spent five weeks atop the adult contemporary chart, her sixth #1 from that tally. Outside of the United States, the song also proved very popular, reaching #1 in many countries, including the United Kingdom.

About midway through the song, Streisand holds a note for about 10 seconds while singing the line: I stumble and fall / But I give you it all (the word "all" is the note held for this duration of time). During the chart run of "Woman In Love", Casey Kasem claimed in an edition of the radio program American Top 40 that this was the longest unaltered note held by a soloist in a #1 song, though would be later surpassed by Whitney Houston's vocals on her smash 14-weeks #1 single "I Will Always Love You"..

- Lyrics:

Life is a moment in space
When the dream is gone
It's a lonelier place
I kiss the morning good-bye
But down inside you know
We never know why

The road is narrow and long
When eyes meet eyes
And the feeling is strong
I turn away from the wall
I stumble and fall
But I give you it all

With you eternally mine
In love there is
No measure of time
They planned it all at the start
That you and I
Live in each other's heart

We may be oceans away
You feel my love
I hear what you say
No truth is ever a lie
I stumble and fall
But I give you it all

I am a woman in love
And I'd do anything
To get you into my world
And hold you within
It's a right I defend
Over and over again
What do I do?

I am a woman in love
And I'm talkin' to you
You know how you feel
What a woman can do
It's a right I defend
Over and over again

The Suprems: "You Can't Hurry Love" (1966)

* First VIdeo: Original TAke

* Second Video: Karaoke

"You Can't Hurry Love" is a number-one single originally recorded by The Supremes for the Motown label, released during the summer of 1966. Sixteen years later, the song again became a number-one hit when Phil Collins rerecorded the song, which reached number-one on the UK Singles Chart for two weeks beginning in January 1983.

The song itself, a memory of a mother's words of encouragement ("My mama said 'you can't hurry love/No you just have to wait'") telling her daughter that with patience she will find that special someone one day, is an example of the strong influence of gospel music present in much of R&B and soul music. "You Can't Hurry Love" also showcases the developing sound of The Supremes, who were progressing from their earlier teen-pop into more mature themes and musical arrangements. This song and "You Keep Me Hangin' On" were finished together; when it came time to choose which single would be issued first, Motown's Quality Control department chose "You Can't Hurry Love".

Written and produced by Motown's main production team, Holland–Dozier–Holland, "You Can't Hurry Love" is one of the signature Supremes songs, and also one of Motown's signature releases. The single became The Supremes' seventh number-one hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for two weeks, from September 4, 1966 to September 17, 1966, and reaching number one on the soul chart for two weeks. The girl group performed the song on the CBS variety program The Ed Sullivan Show on Sunday, September 25, 1966..

- Lyrics:

Songwriters: Dozier, Lamont; Holland, Brian; Holland, Eddie;

I need love, love
To ease my mind
I need to find, find someone to call mine
But mama said

You can't hurry love
No, you just have to wait
She said love don't come easy
It's a game of give and take

You can't hurry love
No, you just have to wait
You got to trust, give it time
No matter how long it takes

But how many heartaches
Must I stand before I find a love
To let me live again
Right now the only thing
That keeps me hangin' on
When I feel my strength, yeah
It's almost gone
I remember mama said:

You can't hurry love
No, you just have to wait
She said love don't come easy
It's a game of give and take

How long must I wait
How much more can I take
Before loneliness will cause my heart
Heart to break?

No I can't bear to live my life alone
I grow impatient for a love to call my own
But when I feel that I, I can't go on
These precious words keeps me hangin' on
I remember mama said:

You can't hurry love
No, you just have to wait
She said love don't come easy
It's a game of give and take

You can't hurry love
No, you just have to wait
She said trust, give it time
No matter how long it takes

No, love, love, don't come easy
But I keep on waiting
Anticipating for that soft voice
To talk to me at night
For some tender arms
To hold me tight
I keep waiting
I keep on waiting
But it ain't easy
It ain't easy
But mama said:

You can't hurry love
No, you just have to wait
She said to trust, give it time
No matter how long it takes

You can't hurry love
No, you just have to wait
She said love don't come easy
It's a game of give and take

Martha & The Vandellas: "Dancing In The Street" (1964)

"Dancing in the Street" is a 1964 song first recorded by Martha and the Vandellas. It is one of Motown's signature songs and is the group's premier signature song.

Produced by William "Mickey" Stevenson and written by Stevenson and Marvin Gaye, the song highlighted the concept of having a good time in whatever city the listener lived. The idea for dancing came to Stevenson from watching people on the streets of Detroit cool off in the summer in water from opened fire hydrants. They appeared to be dancing in the water.[1] The song was conceived by Stevenson who was showing a rough draft of the lyrics to Gaye disguised as a ballad. When Gaye read the original lyrics, however, he said the song sounded more danceable. With Gaye and Stevenson collaborating, the duo composed the single with Kim Weston in mind to record the song. Weston passed on the song and when Martha Reeves came to Motown's Hitsville USA studios, the duo presented the song to Reeves. Hearing Gaye's demo of it, Reeves asked if she could arrange her own vocals to fit the song's message.

Gaye and Stevenson agreed and including new Motown songwriter Ivy Jo Hunter adding in musical composition, the song was recorded in two takes. The interesting loud beat of the drums in its instrumentation can be attributed to Hunter, who banged on a crowbar to add to the drum beat led by Gaye, who was often a drummer on many of Motown's earliest hits.

In accordance with wikipedia, while produced as an innocent dance single (it became the precursor to the disco movement of the 1970s), the song took on a different meaning when riots in inner-city America led to many young black demonstrators citing the song as a civil rights anthem to social change which also led to some radio stations taking the song off its play list because certain black advocates such as H. Rap Brown began playing the song while organizing demonstrations..

- Lyrics:

Callin' out around the world
Are you ready for a brand new beat?
Summer's here and the time is right
For dancin' in the streets
They're dancin' in Chicago
Down in New Orleans
Up in New York City

All we need is music, sweet music
There'll be music everywhere
There'll be swingin', swayin' and records playin'
And dancin' in the streets

Oh, it doesn't matter what you wear
Just as long as you are there
So come on, every guy grab a girl
Everywhere around the world
There'll be dancin'
They're dancin' in the street

This is an invitation
Across the nation
A chance for the folks to meet
There'll be laughin' and singin' and music swingin'
And dancin' in the streets

Philadelphia, P.A. (Philadelphia, P.A.)
Baltimore and DC now (Baltimore and DC now)
Yeah don't forget the Motor City (can't forget the Motor City)

All we need is music, sweet music
There'll be music everywhere
There'll be swingin', swayin' and records playin'
And dancin' in the street, yeah

Oh, it doesn't matter what you wear
Just as long as you are there
So come on, every guy grasp a girl
Everywhere around the world
There'll be dancin'
They're dancin' in the streets

Philadelphia, P.A. (Philadelphia, P.A.)

The Temptations: "Papa Was A Rollin' Stone"

"Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" is a soul song, written by Motown songwriters Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong as a single for Motown act The Undisputed Truth in 1971. This version of "Papa" was released as a single in early 1972, and peaked at number sixty-three on the pop charts and number twenty-four on the R&B charts.

Later in 1972, Whitfield, who also produced the song, took "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" and remade it as a twelve-minute record for The Temptations, which was a number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and won three Grammy Awards in 1973. While the original Undisputed Truth version of the song has been largely forgotten, The Temptations' version of the song has been an enduring and influential soul classic.

It was ranked #168 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, one of the group's three songs on the list. In retrospect, The Temptations' Otis Williams considers "Papa" to be the last real classic the group recorded.

- Lyrics:

It was the third of September.
That day I'll always remember, yes I will.
'Cause that was the day that my daddy died.
I never got a chance to see him.
Never heard nothing but bad things about him.
Mama, I'm depending on you to tell me the truth.

And Mama just hung her head and said,
"Son, Papa was a rolling stone.
Wherever he laid his hat was his home.
(And when he died) All he left us was alone."
"Papa was a rolling stone, my son.
Wherever he laid his hat was his home.
(And when he died) All he left us was alone."

Well, well

Hey Mama, is it true what they say,
that Papa never worked a day in his life?
And Mama, some bad talk going around town
saying that Papa had three outside children and another wife.
And that ain't right.
Hey, talk about Papa doing some store front preaching.
Talked about saving souls and all the time leeching.
Dealing in debt and stealing in the name of the Lord.

Mama just hung her head and said,
"Papa was a rolling stone, my son.
Wherever he laid his hat was his home.
(And when he died) All he left us was alone."
"Hey, Papa was a rolling stone.
Wherever he laid his hat was his home.
(And when he died) All he left us was alone."

Ugh

Hey Mama, I heard Papa called himself a jack of all trades.
Tell me is that what sent Papa to an early grave?
Folks say Papa would beg, borrow, steal to pay his bills.
Hey Mama, folks say that Papa was never much on thinking.
Spent most of his life chasing women and drinking.
Mama, I'm depending on you to tell me the truth.

And Mama looked up with a tear in her eye and said,
"Son, Papa was a rolling stone. (Well, well, well, well)
Wherever he laid his hat was his home.
(And when he died) All he left us was alone, lone, lone, lone, alone."
"Papa was a rolling stone.
Wherever he laid his hat was his home.
(And when he died) All he left us was alone."

"I said, Papa was a rolling stone. Wherever he laid his hat was his home.
(And when he died) All he left us was alone."
