Jackson Brown: "The Load-Out" (1977)

"The Load-Out" is a song by Jackson Browne from his 1977 album Running on Empty. It is a tribute to his roadies and fans. The song was recorded live at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland.

According to wikipedia, "The Load-Out" describes the daily practices of a band and its road crew on a concert tour, and the emotions evoked throughout such an endeavor. The first three verses of the song consists of Browne singing and playing piano with David Lindley playing steel guitar. They are later joined by a synthesizer, followed by the rest of the band. Eventually "The Load-Out" segues into a fitting interpretation of Maurice Williams' 1960 hit "Stay," sung by Browne, Rosemary Butler, and Lindley.

Many radio stations played "The Load-Out" and "Stay" together as a medley and although it wasn't released as a single, "The Load-Out" charted as a tag-along to "Stay" on the singles charts based on airplay.

"What I Like About You" is a song by American rock band The Romantics. The song, written by Romantics members Wally Palmar, Mike Skill and Jimmy Marinos is featured on the band's self-titled 1980 debut album, and was also released as a single. Marinos, the band's drummer, is the lead vocalist on the song. The band filmed a music video for the song that appeared frequently on MTV during the early 1980s.

REO Speedwagon: "Take It on the Run" (1981)

"Take It on the Run" is the fifth track on the REO Speedwagon album Hi Infidelity. It was released as a single in 1981 and reached #5 on the Billboard charts. The song was written by guitarist Gary Richrath. "Take It on the Run" was the follow-up single behind the group’s #1 hit, “Keep On Loving You”. The cover band Me First and the Gimme Gimmes has punk-covered this song for their live album Ruin Jonny's Bar Mitzvah.

This song, unlike "Keep On Loving You" and REO Speedwagon’s eventual second #1 hit, "Can't Fight This Feeling", is not a power ballad. It is faster in tempo and has a forty-seven second guitar solo. It is in the key of G major or Ionian, established by the melody and the verse's G-C-D-G (I-IV-V-I) chord progression.[1]

This song was released as a downloadable add-on for the Rock Band video game franchise on April 21, 2009.

Aventura: "Obsesión" (2002)

"Obsesión" (English: Obsession) is a 2002 single by Dominican-American bachata band Aventura. It was included on the 2002 album We Broke the Rules. It achieved a huge success in many countries, reaching the top of many international charts. In France, the single hit number one for seven weeks and became the 442nd best-selling of all time in the country, with about 565,000 units sold.

The lyrics were written by Anthony Santos, and the refrain is performed by the female vocalist Judy Santos (the two are not related). The song explains a man's liking of a woman to the point of obsession. However, this feeling is "not love", and is still only and just an obsession.

In 2004, the song was covered by 3rd Wish featuring Baby Bash produced by Mintman, but this version was less successful than the original version (#7 In Switzerland, #2 in Austria, #12 in France).

Later, in 2005, the song was covered by Los Horoscopos de Durango in their album Y Seguimos con Duranguense.

Latin R&B artist Frankie J made an English and more soul-styled version of the song, featuring Baby Bash, which was called "Obsession (No Es Amor)". This version, although not having success in Latin America and Europe, was successful in the U.S., even reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

"Amazing" is an electro-house song by Romanian recording artist Inna, from her debut album "Hot". The song debuted on Radio 21 FM on August 6, 2009, and was released in October 2009.

It brought Inna the first number-one single in her home country Romania. It was released as her fourth single in Romania and the Netherlands and as her second single in the U.K., Germany and France.

The music video was shot in Portugal and shows Inna on the beach falling in love with a lifeguard. It is Inna' second successful single worldwide, only beyond "Hot". "Manic Monday" is a song by the American pop rock band The Bangles, and the first single released from their second studio album Different Light (1986). It was written by Prince, originally intended for the group Apollonia 6 in 1984. Two years later, he offered the song to The Bangles with the pseudonym "Christopher", based on his character of the movie Under the Cherry Moon (1986). Lyrically it describes a woman who is waking up on Monday, wishing it was still Sunday.

Carrie Underwood: "Mama's Song" (2010)

"Mama's Song" is the title of a song recorded by American singer Carrie Underwood, co-written by her along with Kara DioGuardi, Martin Frederiksen and Luke Laird. It is the fourth single release from her third studio album, Play On. These songwriters also wrote her previous single, "Undo It." Underwood performed this song on the 44th Country Music Association Awards on November 10, 2010.

Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic described the song as "sticky" and "tacky." Sean Daly of the St. Petersburg Times compared it unfavorably to "Change" on the same album, saying that both were "too precious, too preachy". Slant Magazine reviewer Jonathan Keefe described the song more favorably in his review of the album, saying that it had cliché lyrics but praising Underwood's "understated vocal" as well as the comparatively softer production.

"Hungry Like the Wolf" is a song by the British New Wave band Duran Duran. Written by the band members, the song was produced by Colin Thurston for the group's second studio album Rio (1982). The song was released in May 1982 as the band's fifth single in the United Kingdom. It reached the top five of the UK Singles Chart, and received a silver certification by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).

"Hungry Like the Wolf"'s Russell Mulcahy-directed music video was filmed in the jungles of Sri Lanka, and evoked the atmosphere of the film Raiders of the Lost Ark. Moby: "Be The One" (2011)

"Be the One" is an extended play released by electronica musician Moby. It was released on February 15, 2011 in conjunction with the announcement of the album Destroyed. The EP is available for free as a digital download on Moby's website. It contains 3 tracks from Destroyed.

The music video was shot by Moby while flying from New York to Los Angeles. and edited by Jo Haggis.[4] The video features an extreme close-up of Moby singing directly into the camera while he is walking around in different locales.

Dire Straits: "Money For Nothing" (1985)

"Money for Nothing" is a single by British rock band Dire Straits, taken from their 1985 album Brothers in Arms. It was one of Dire Straits' most successful singles, peaking at number one for three weeks in the United States, and it also reached number one for three weeks on the U.S. Mainstream Rock chart. In the band's native UK, the song peaked at number four. The recording was notable for its controversial lyrics, groundbreaking music video and a cameo appearance by Sting singing the song's falsetto introduction and backing chorus, "I want my MTV," who also co-wrote the song with Mark Knopfler. The video was also the first to be aired on MTV Europe when the network started on 1 August 1987. "Money for Nothing" won the Grammy for the Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with a Vocal in 1985 at the 28th annual Grammy Awards.

The recording contains a very recognizable hook, in the form of the guitar riff that begins the song proper. (The song is also notable for its extended overture, which was shortened for radio and music video). The guitar riff continues throughout the song, played in full during each chorus, and played in muted permutation during the verse.

The song's lyrics are written from the point of view of a working-class man watching music videos and commenting on what he sees. To achieve the effect of such a layman making such casual everyday commentary envying the superior lives of rock stars, Dire Straits' lead singer and songwriter Mark Knopfler used a vocal style known as Sprechstimme. Knopfler described the writing of the song in a 1985 interview with critic Bill Flanagan: "The lead character in "Money for Nothing" is a guy who works in the hardware department in a television/custom kitchen/refrigerator/microwave appliance store. He's singing the song. I wrote the song when I was actually in the store. I borrowed a bit of paper and started to write the song down in the store. I wanted to use a lot of the language that the real guy actually used when I heard him, because it was more real...."

In 2000, Knopfler appeared on Michael Parkinson's interview program and explained again where the lyrics originated. According to Knopfler, he was in New York and stopped by an appliance store. At the back of the store, they had a wall of TVs which were all tuned to MTV. Knopfler said there was a man working there dressed in a baseball cap, work boots, and a checkered shirt delivering boxes who was standing next to him watching. As they were standing there watching MTV, Knopfler remembers the man coming up with classic lines such as "what are those, Hawaiian noises?...that ain't workin" etc. Knopfler asked for a pen to write some of these lines down and then eventually put those words to music. Rosemary Clooney: "Tenderly" (1952)

"Tenderly" is a popular song published in 1946 with music by Walter Gross (1909-1967) and lyrics by Jack Lawrence. Copyright 1946 by Edwin H. Morris & Company, Inc. Originally written in the key of Eb as a waltz in 3/4 time, it has since been performed in 4/4 and has subsequently become a popular jazz standard.

According to wikipedia, "Tenderly" has been recorded by many artists, but perhaps the best-known version was by Rosemary Clooney. Clooney's recorded version reached only #17 on the Billboard magazine pop charts in early 1952, but is more popular than the chart data would suggest, as is evidenced by the fact that Tenderly served as the theme song for Clooney's 1956-1957 TV variety show.

Kim Wilde (born Kim Smith, 18 November 1960) is an English pop singer, author and television presenter who burst onto the music scene in 1981 with the number 2 UK Singles Chart new wave classic "Kids in America". In 1987 she had a major hit in the United States when her version of The Supremes' classic "You Keep Me Hangin' On" topped the charts. Starting in 1998, while still active in music, she has branched into an alternative career as a landscape gardener.

Sara Bareilles: "Love Song" (2007)

"Love Song" is the first single released from Sara Bareilles's 2007 album Little Voice. It is her debut single. She has stated in her live performances that it was actually written in response to her record label Epic's request that she write a "marketable love song," rather than about an actual person.

The song was also featured in a Rhapsody commercial along with "Bottle It Up", and in commercials for the TV show The Return of Jezebel James and the movies Made of Honor, Suburban Girl, and All About Steve. The song is also featured on the Apple Garageband Artist Lessons, featuring Bareilles herself teaching how to play the song on the piano.

"Love Song" was nominated for 2009 Grammy Awards in categories Song of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

The pop-punk band, Four Year Strong, covered the song on the 2009 compilation album, Punk Goes Pop 2. It remains Bareilles's biggest hit single in the USA to date, and stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 for 54 weeks. The song also spent a longevity atop the Hot Adult Pop Songs and Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart, and ended up being the #1 at the year-end chart for both charts.

3 Doors Down: "Here Without You" (2002)

3 Doors Down is an American rock band from Escatawpa, Mississippi, formed in 1996. The band consists of Brad Arnold (vocals), Matt Roberts (guitar/vocals), Todd Harrell (bass), Chris Henderson (guitar), and Greg Upchurch (drums/percussion).[1]

The band rose to national fame with their first single, "Kryptonite", which charted in the top three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The band then signed onto Republic Records and released their debut album, The Better Life, in 2000. The album was the 11th-best-selling album of the year and was certified 6x platinum in the United States. Their second album, Away from the Sun, (2002) continued the band's success; it debuted at #8 on the Billboard 200 chart and went multi-platinum in the United States like its predecessor. The band followed it up by extensive touring for two years before releasing their third album, Seventeen Days, in 2005. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified platinum within its first month of release. Rod Stewart: "Have You Ever Seen The Rain"

"Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" is a song written by John Fogerty and released in 1970 on the album Pendulum by American roots rock group Creedence Clearwater Revival. The song peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in 1971. On Cash Box pop chart, it peaked at number three. Billboard co-listed the b-side "Hey Tonight". In the UK, it reached number 36. It was the group's eighth gold-selling single.

Some have speculated that the song's lyrics are referencing the Vietnam War, with the 'rain' being a metaphor for bombs falling from the sky. According to wikipedia, In his review of the song for Allmusic website, Mark Deming suggests that the song is about the idealism of the 1960s fading in the wake of events such as the Altamont Free Concert and the Kent State shootings and that Fogerty is saying that the same issues of the '60s still existed in the 1970s but that people were no longer fighting for them. However, Fogerty himself has said in interviews and prior to playing the song in concert that the song is about rising tension within CCR and the imminent departure of his brother Tom from the band.

John Fogerty released a live version of the song on his The Long Road Home - In Concert DVD which was recorded at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles, California on September 15, 2005.

"Waiting in Vain" is a song written and recorded by reggae musician Bob Marley for his 1977 album Exodus. Released as a single, it hit number twenty-seven in the UK Singles Chart.

"Stairway to Heaven" is a song by the English rock band Led Zeppelin, released in late 1971. It was composed by guitarist Jimmy Page and vocalist Robert Plant for the band's untitled fourth studio album (dubbed Led Zeppelin IV). The song, which runs almost eight minutes, is composed of several sections, which increase in tempo and volume as the song progresses.
